Around The Primary

Dear Families

It is hard to believe that another term has ended! Term Two has been full of so many wonderful learning experiences and events, such as, Primary House Day, Mother’s Day celebrations, camps, winter sport, assemblies, liturgies, and Sacramental preparations.

Thank you to our dedicated staff for their hard work, they always go above and beyond to ensure that our students receive the highest standard of education.  My thanks is extended to all families for your continuous support.

Special thanks to Mrs Fontaine, Mrs Levy and Mrs Haydon, and the students from Year 5 for the work that they put into preparing today's Assembly item. It was an entertaining presentation showcasing their experience of the Year 5 adventure camp.

This afternoon Semester One reports will be available via SEQTA (see notes below). The holiday break is the ideal time to help your child/ren celebrate the positives on their report and to encourage them to keep working hard on those aspects of their learning that are challenging.

Wishing you all a very happy, safe, and relaxing holiday break.

We look forward to seeing all students back at school on Thursday 20 July for another term full of learning, fun, and special times.

Kind regards

Confirmation Retreat

Last Friday the Year 6 students participated in a fantastic day learning all about Confirmation, saints and the Holy Spirit. During the first four periods of the day, presenters from 24:7 Ministry taught us about the Rite of Confirmation. While having lots of fun playing games and interacting with each other, we also learnt about the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit.  We then took part in in a liturgy where we had the opportunity to reflect on our learning and think about consider how we can use the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives. As well as being very reverent, the Year 6 cohort had a fun and enjoyable day.

By Jack & Jay (6G)

The confirmation retreat was an amazing experience. All the Year 6 students had a great time playing games, learning about the seven gifts from God and undertaking activities about the Holy Spirit. We were led by dedicated presenters who ensured we had a nice time whilst leaning, watching, and doing activities. They taught us all about the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, how to use them in our lives and how to see them in other people. They also showed us that when we discard or throw to the side thoughts or gifts from others, it can be very hurtful to the person. Overall, it was an informative and interesting day, filled with personal reflections and group collaborations that made it a great learning experience and a fun time!

CEWA Religious Literacy Assessment

Next term, students in Years 3 and 5 will participating in the CEWA Religious Education Assessment (REA), formally known as the Bishops’ Religious Literacy Assessment.

We have a scheduled Practice Assessment in Week 2 and the REA Assessment in Week 3 as follows for Years 3 and 5:

Practice AssessmentWednesday 26 July9am
AssessmentWednesday 02 August 9am

The REA measures students’ knowledge and understanding of the content in the Religious Education Curriculum. It provides a ‘point in time’ snapshot of student performance in Religious Education. As with all assessments, we encourage students to approach the online assessment with a calm and positive mindset.

Parliament House Visit

On Monday, the Year 5 students visited Parliament House and the Constitution Centre, to conclude our study of Civics and Citizenship in HASS. We hope you enjoy reading some of the student’s reflections.

On Monday, Year 5 went to Parliament House. In the Constitution Centre where we learnt about democracy and how it started in 570 BC, which is about 2793 years ago! Only men were allowed to vote for a new king. 700 years later, the king decided to give away some of his power to the people to make it fairer. They then changed the voting system so women could vote, and you had to be 21 years or older.

Daniel 5B

At Parliament House, we went into the upper house and lower house (Legislative Assembly and Council). In the Legislative Assembly, we were allowed to act out the real-life performances.  There was a conference on in the upper house and we were allowed to watch from the side. I was surprised the lower house was so modern, as it was built in the 1900s, I expected it to be older.

Nic 5G

During the excursion, I discovered that a woman called Edith Cowan is on the $50 note. One of the main attractions of the excursion was the Legislative Assembly, where we acted out roles, including being in the government and the opposition.

Mini Chefs!

The Year 3 students enjoyed making spinach and cheddar muffins as part of the food and fibre production in Design Technologies. Students learnt about the seasonality of different vegetables and discovered that spinach grows well during the colder seasons. They learnt about the ideal conditions for planting spinach and then planted some of their own. Students enjoyed eating their muffins fresh out of the oven!
