From the Principal
I am pleased to report that preparations are well underway for our move into our new administration building, the newly refurbished 'A Block’, including 10 new Years 11 and 12 classrooms and Examination Centre, and our new student Wellbeing Centre.
Integral to realising the College’s educational vision are the refurbished Years 11 and 12 classrooms and Examination Centre in A Block, incorporating a range of dynamic, versatile learning spaces designed to further foster creative and critical thinking. The newly refurbished building seeks to optimise excellence in learning, while at the same time maintaining the openness and beauty of the College.
Our new, purpose-built staff building centralises the administration function of the College and re-orientates the College ‘front door’ to John XXIII Avenue, whilst continuing to provide a clear line of sight to the Chapel to reinforce its centrality to the College in both a physical and spiritual way. The new build also significantly improves the staff amenity with the addition of a range of meeting rooms and beautifully landscaped surroundings with accessible walkways.
Nearby, the specially designed play area and basketball court extends the outdoor amenity available to the Primary school, enhancing the opportunities available for more physical activity and; lastly, our newly refurbished Wellbeing Centre ensures students have ready access to appropriately well-resourced medical, student wellbeing and student services support. We are keenly looking forward to occupying our new spaces from the start of Term 3 and officially blessing and opening our new buildings on 15 September.
As we know, Australians will be asked to cast their vote in the upcoming 2023 Indigenous Voice to Parliament Referendum later in the year. For Catholics, this is a remarkable opportunity to call upon our Catholic teachings to make an informed decision. In that spirit, the College is hosting a panel discussion on the Voice to Parliament on Tuesday, 18 July from 6:30pm to 8:00pm in the Gonzaga Barry Lecture Theatre. The panel of experts includes Collene Castle, Fr Frank Brennan sj, Kate Chaney, Kelsi Forrest, Tyson McEwan and James Back as compere. It offers our College community, and the broader community, the chance to learn about the Voice from leading experts in Indigenous rights and cultural understanding. We look forward to as many attending as possible.
In the meantime, I hope you are afforded the opportunity to spend some precious time with family and friends during the holiday break. I also extend my thanks to our generous College community for the support I have received during my first term as Principal and look forward to everyone’s return in Term 3.
