Hockey
Ava Vaughan (year 11) and Mia Vaughan (year 10) both represented Hockey New England at the U18s Girls NSW State Hockey Championships in Campbelltown in May this year.
Ava’s team made the final for the second year running with a 1-1 all draw at full time. Unfortunately, they went down to a very strong Sydney East team after two rounds of penalty shoot outs and were named runners up.
Mia’s team narrowly missed out on making semi-finals and are a younger team who built skill and confidence to take into the 2024 State Champs
Tyler Riggall has been named in the Hockey NSW 2023 U13 boys field squad, following the state championships in Tamworth.
Both Elise Piddington and Tilly Patterson represented Hockey New England, with the team making the semifinals.
Tilly Patterson has also been selected in the NSW Under 13’s squad.

A recount from Mr Shane McCann
As we pulled off the M1 Pacific Highway, the floodlights of the C.ex Coffs International Stadium came into view. As we drove closer we could see the stadium, the picture perfect sports fields plus two full size-synthetic pitches. State of the art facilities.
"How did we make it to here?", wondered one of our Year 10's, speaking his thoughts out loud. 10 minutes into the first half, I was wondering the same. Our boys were 3 nil down.
We stuck together through thick and thin, the boys working hard for each other right until the very end. Final score; unknown. Record books show a 4 nil defeat. (It was definitely more than that.) Good on the officials, maintaining their professionalism, disallowing our 'would be' consolation goal. Offside. (It wasn't.)
Ms Magann and Mr Honeysett were in charge on the other field. Our girls put in a fantastic performance, being very unlucky to bow out in a 1 nil defeat. I wasn't allowed to turn around and watch that game as it apparently would have led to an influx of goals for the opposition. Through hearsay I know that we hit the bar in the last few minutes, the width of the crossbar denying us a late equaliser. Great performance from the girls in defeat.
The trip was not in vain however, as we did find a Maccas on the way home.
The Boombox continued to blare the tunes - good batteries on that thing! It had been going since 7.15am. Some old 90's classics featured, remixed in such a way to suit the ears of teenage listeners.
Thanks to all staff involved who help to make these trips happen. The kids had a blast.
Ben Venue Athletics Carnival
The Ben Venue Athletics Carnival last term was a raging success! The year 10 students were absolutely fantastic with the younger kids and represented O’Connor with pride.
Well done to all involved!
