Religious Education News

Mr Andrew May

This week in Mass we were blessed to have Father Paul Mccabe, an ex-student of De La Salle Armidale, celebrate Mass with our Year 11 and 7 students. During the Mass, Father Paul spoke about the importance of our parents and other people who care for us throughout our childhood and later lives.

Family is at the heart of the Catholic faith. We believe that all humans are united as one global family, and that we should seek to treat each other as brother and sister. Here at O’Connor we express this in a multitude of ways, not just in our Religious Education lessons. It is expressed through our school motto, “The fruit of the spirit is love”, where love is the respect we have for each other and the world around us. It’s expressed in the concern that school staff have for our students, and the concern that students show for each other in their times of need.

Next week, on Friday 4th of August, we’ll have another opportunity to show that we are one great family. We are hosting a sleepout here at the College for any student who wishes to attend, to raise awareness about homelessness in our local community, as well as raise much needed funds for our local St Vincent de Paul branch. Messages about this have been sent out to you, and notices placed in the daily bulletin for students. If you would like more information about the sleepout, or would like to donate money to the cause, then you can visit the fundraising website here:

So far over 25 students have indicated that they are going to attend - we are hoping that more are able to come along!

Thank you for all your support for this cause, and all of your support throughout the year and in the term to come.

Keeping in touch with what is happening in the Cathedral Parish is easy through their website and Facebook pages.

With such a difficult year and a half it has been harder for parishioner's to give to the parish through the plates, particularly when the church is closed as it is at present. The Parish account details are available on the Parish bulletin.
