Around the Primary Classrooms

Kinder

During the past couple of weeks, the Kinder studetns have enjoyed a variety of activities, including:

  • looking at contemporary indigenous art and being inspired to create their own paintings
  • working with Year 10 Child Care VET students. A lovely chatty rapport is blossoming between them all. The "big girls" read stories in small groups, assisted with a dot to dot that went way past 10 and helped with cutting out a ‘spiral snake’ and then with weaving snowflakes.
  • we have begun using puppets; this activity fosters confidence, memory, turn taking and responding as well as pour enjoyment.

Year 4

In Art, we created a tree in winter.  We have a big tree outside our classroom window that we look at each day. We noticed that it spread out and the branches became thinner and thinner. Because it was a really windy day, some of the twigs were flying off!

To do the background we thought about what colours are in the sky in winter. To start with we needed to wet the sheet of paper. We mixed and blended water colours eg. purple, yellow, grey and blue. The paint kind of made a cloudy kind of texture. Once the paper was dry, the next week we started making the tree. We did this by putting drops of paint on the paper with a pipette and then we blow through a straw to move the paint.

Year 5

Last Tuesday, the two Year 5 classes headed off to Molesworth Education Centre for a day of leadership activities.

The students were faced with 6 different and difficult challenges in very cold conditions that required them to work as a team. The girls needed to show good communication skills, respect each others ideas, resilience and trust in their teammates.

Challenges included “Save Taz”, “Prison Break”, “Toxic Waste” and everyone’s favourite the “Tyre Swing”.

Many thanks to the parents who came along and helped out for the day. Without you we would not have had such a great day.
