House Band Competition

Dave McNamara

The annual House Band competition occurred last Friday at lunchtime in the Cahill Centre. All three Houses were well prepared and performed like seasoned musicians. Carmel kicked off with an upbeat rendition of Roar. A tight rhythm section and some stunning vocal harmonies were most striking in this performance. Lourdes were a tight ensemble, complete with a large instrumental section and a polyphonic arrangement that was impressive in its intricacy. Their performance of Pompeii was of a very high standard. Loreto finished the concert off on a high with a two-toned performance of Fix You. At one moment a tear-jerking ballad, and the next a massive rock-out. The laconic hidden lead guitarist stole the show, strolling out from behind the curtains and revving the crowd up into delirium towards the end of the song.

It was great to see the support that students from all Houses gave to each other both on stage and in the audience. Loreto was awarded the ‘Golden Microphone’ on the day. The competition was very close and the judge had a tough time separating the three items.

We were treated to a song by our judge, local singer-songwriter Daniel J Townsend. Many thanks to Daniel for judging the competition, as well as the House Captains and Heads of House for their organisation and leadership. Congratulations to all of the students and staff involved for their hard work and preparedness to develop the performances over the practice period. You are all rock stars!
