Rotary Public Speaking
Hannah Bourke represented Holy Trinity last week at the Rotary Public Speaking Night. Hannah was successful in the competition and will now progress to the next round of the competition. Well done, Hannah.
NSW Youth Advisory Council
Congratulations to Hannah Bourke, who has been shortlisted for the NSW Youth Advisory Council (YAC) and selected to attend the NSW YAC Recruitment Event on Thursday 29 June, at the State Library of NSW.
The NSW Youth Advisory Council (YAC) plays an important role in advising the NSW Government on issues, policies and laws that affect children and young people in NSW.
The12 member YAC meets regularly throughout the year to provide advice to the Minister Responsible for Youth, the Hon. Rose Jackson and the Advocate for Children and Young People, Ms Zoe Robinson.
The event will provide an opportunity for the shortlisted applicants to hear from previous and current YAC members about their experiences and share their opinions on issues that matter to young people.
Hannah was one of over 700 applicants, and there are now 80 applicants in this next stage of the process. We wish Hannah all the best for this next round.
White Card Course
Several Year 10 students received their White Card (Work Safely in the Construction Industry) last Thursday after successfully completing the course at school. The external trainer was very complimentary about the engagement and behaviour of the students. Thanks to Mrs Townsend for organising.
Good luck to the U/14 & U/16 rugby league and league tag players who will play in the Small Schools' Cup this Thursday at Kamilaroi.
O’Connor Catholic College in Armidale holds a Founders Day each year in recognition of their school's founders. One of their founders is John Baptist de La Salle, who is also one of the founders of Holy Trinity School. A Founders Day is an initiative that we would like to start running here at HTS.
O’Connor has kindly invited us to participate in their Founders Day on Friday 30 June, 2023. Our Year 9 SRC members Hannah Bourke, Jess Hill, Mollie McCudden and Griffin Sanderson will attend along with Mrs Guest and Bridie Giles, our La Sallian Youth Minister.
There are many items of lost property in the Secondary Staffroom, the majority of which are not labelled with student names. Labelling the items makes it easy to return them to students.
Multiple hoodies and school jackets remain unclaimed. If your child has misplaced an item, please ask them to check with teachers in the staffroom.
Reports have been finalised and will be distributed this week. If there are any concerns or queries regarding reports, please contact the school.
The attitude you bring influences your thoughts and actions and the approach you then take to your learning. Your attitude will affect how much time you put into your schoolwork, how you manage challenges, and ultimately your path to achieving your personal academic best.
Take the time to determine reasons to put effort into your schoolwork.
Think about which of the following reasons might be motivating for you:
You may have heard about ‘carrot’ and ‘stick’ people. If you want a donkey to move forward, you can either lead it forward with a carrot (a reward) or tap it with a stick (punishment).
Some students are motivated by working towards rewards, positive consequences of doing the right thing, while others are motivated to avoid negative consequences. Which do you think you are?
Understanding what motivates you and what affects your attitude can make it easier for you to make positive changes.
1. Use a strong, unique password
2. Enable two-factor authentication. This adds an extra layer of security by requiring a verification code when logging in from an unfamiliar device.
3. Customise your privacy settings to limit who can contact you, view your story, and see your location.
4. Be cautious with location sharing; only share your location with trusted friends, and consider using the “Ghost Mode” feature or disabling the SnapMap to hide your location from others.
5. Regularly review your friends list and remove anyone who you no longer trust or want to share content with.
6. Avoid sharing personal information. Keep your full name, address, phone number, and other sensitive information private.
7. Be mindful of the content you post, as screenshots or screen recordings can make your content permanent, even if it is meant to disappear after being viewed.
8. Be cautious when clicking on links sent to you in messages, even from friends, as they could lead to phishing sites or malware.
9. Report and block suspicious users. If you encounter inappropriate behaviour or receive unwanted messages, report and block the user. 10. Keep your app updated. Regularly update Snapchat to ensure you have the latest security features and fixes.
11. Avoid using public Wi-Fi or unsecured networks when using Snapchat to protect your data.
12. Log out when using shared devices or when you’re finished using the app for added security.
13. Educate yourself on Snapchat features. Stay informed about new features and how they impact your privacy and security.
14. Think before you snap. Consider the potential consequences of your content before posting it.
15. Use Snapchat’s login verification feature to receive a unique code via SMS when logging in from an unfamiliar device.
16. Control who can see your stories and private snaps by adjusting the “Who Can…” settings.
17. Avoid using third-party apps that claim to offer additional Snapchat features, as they may compromise your security.
18. Save your photos and videos to your device or cloud storage to prevent accidental loss.
19. Encourage your friends to follow safety guidelines and maintain a safe Snapchat community.
20. Regularly visit Snapchat’s official blog or safety centre for updates and tips on how to stay safe on the platform.
