Art Room Journey: A Semester of Creativity and Growth
The art room has been buzzing with creativity this semester as our students embarked on an incredible artistic journey. From Preps to Year Seven, their enthusiasm and dedication have produced remarkable works of art.
The Preps immersed themselves in the world of art, focusing on fundamental concepts like Line and Primary and Secondary colors. Inspired by Piet Mondrian, their stunning artworks capture his style with bold lines and vibrant colors, showcasing their joy and enthusiasm. Year One and Two students delved into Salvador Dali's surreal world, designing their own Surrealist animals inspired by "The Elephants" painting.
Year Three students expressed themselves through self-portraits, drawing inspiration from artist Nate Williams. Their unique artworks convey individuality and emotions, displaying exceptional results through their effort and dedication. Year Four students explored color theory, creating vibrant color wheels that demonstrate their understanding of color relationships, harmony, and contrast. These visually captivating creations showcase their acquired knowledge.
Year 5 and 6 students took on the world of Steampunk, designing their own Steampunk animals and building impressive 3D models. Their artistic skills, imagination, and problem-solving abilities resulted in remarkable creations. Year Seven students honed their skills in the fundamental Elements of Art, embracing challenges and creating drawings. They also explored color theory, creating intricate gemstone paintings that demonstrate their understanding of color relationships and interactions.
The art room has been a hub of creativity, where students found inspiration, honed their skills, and embraced new techniques. I am immensely proud of their growth and accomplishments this semester. As the semester ends, we eagerly anticipate the upcoming term and the new artistic horizons it brings. I am excited to see what our budding artists will create next as they continue to explore and expand their abilities. Thank you for your continued support. Wishing you a wonderful break filled with art and creativity.
Teamwork, fitness and fun in Physical Education
We are excited to share the latest updates from our P.E. department at WCC. This semester, our students have been actively developing their movement sequences and games senses while exploring new sports. Our dedicated P.E. teachers have worked closely with them, enhancing their coordination, balance, agility, and game strategies. Additionally, we introduced soccer, Lacrosse, AFL, cricket, and baseball to broaden their sports experience.
Our Run Club has continued to thrive, with students of all ages participating in regular running sessions. The club promotes cardiovascular endurance, perseverance, and personal fitness goals. We are proud of our students' progress and healthy habits. Moreover, our Year 5 and 6 students showcased their sportsmanship, teamwork, and dedication in the recent CSEN Soccer Tournament. They played with passion and determination, making us incredibly proud.
Thank you for your continued support in promoting physical education and a healthy lifestyle among our students.
Music
We have had a wonderful semester in Music. We began the year with our Preps, 1’s and 2’s learning about rhythm and beat. We have explored these musical elements through singing songs, playing instruments and using our bodies to move to the beat. We have continued our musical journeys by looking at music from around the world and learning about different styles of music and various instruments. A favourite was the hand pan with lots of students commenting on how listening to it made them feel relaxed and calm.
In years 3-8 we have been exploring musical elements, learning about rhythm, beat, melody, dynamics, tempo, timbre and texture. We have furthered our understanding of these concepts through playing instruments, using word patterns and composing our own music which we performed to the class. The 3’s and 4’s have been focusing on melody throughout this term with the 3’s looking at different melodic instruments such as Ukulele, boomwhackers, bells and Glockenspiel. The 4’s have begun their recorder unit which they have all been very excited about. A highlight this term was our first lunchtime concert highlighting the learning which the year 7 and 8’s have taken part in by creating a group performance. The concert was well attended by our students and an overwhelming success. We look forward to having more lunchtime concerts with more students involved in the future.
Digital Technology
Digital Technologies has been buzzing with activity this semester. The primary years have been busy learning coding concepts and creating their own games through coding. The Year 4s and 5s have also learned how to turn ordinary PowerPoint presentations into interactive quizzes, with the Year 4s extending their research of animal life-cycles and the Year 5s exploring topics of their own interest. Year 6s have also been exploring how to code hardware with our “Micro:Bits”, creating everything from electronic dice and coin toss simulators to simple multiplayer games, sound sensors and compasses, just to name a few.
Year 8s have been getting back to basics and discovering that there is a lot more to Word Processing that they didn’t already know, as well as delving more into Excel spreadsheets. This culminated in a real-world research project where students had to plan and organise a multi-family holiday to Disneyworld, covering everything from flights, accommodation, tickets and activities. Next Semester the Year 8s will take a break and the Year 7s will have their turn!
