Intervention – Catering for All Abilities

Intervention – Catering for All Abilities
We’re living in a world where I regularly hear it being said by people, from the youngest amongst us to the more advanced in life, ‘that’s not fair’! However, that’s life…
There is a big difference between fair and equal. Fair does not mean everyone must have the same.
Good quality education ensures that every student receives what they need in order to progress and have success. Now, that’s FAIR. This means in some learning areas different activities are designed for different students. Because of our diversity, our learning needs, too, are different. At WCC, we ensure every student is catered for and receives what they need through the provision of intervention in literacy and numeracy. We have a particular focus on the Early Years where students are just beginning to learn ‘how to learn’. This approach ensures students are provided with every opportunity to develop a strong foundation on which all future learning can be built.
My purpose and passion as an Educator, is to ensure every student entrusted to me is provided with the best possible opportunity to meet their specific learning needs. This is what drives me. It gives me great pleasure to see the ‘light bulb’ go on and hear students say with a twinkle in their eye ‘oh, now I get it!’
That’s why I can truly say, I love my job and am thankful to play a small part in helping students achieve success!

In group Intervention for PREPS, we target Phonological awareness skills. Children are taught pre-reading skills such as rhyme, syllable awareness and phonemic awareness skills in small groups of four. I have enjoyed teaching these skills using games and other interactive activities. It is a rewarding experience as the students learn these skills and eventually demonstrate fluent reading skills at the end of the 20 weeks program. Students have shown great excitement in attending the groups and take delight in their gradual learning. – by Sam
Intervention is a fun way of learning how to read and write, the students and I love it! We read books, write words, sentences and play games within a small group. - byLJ
I enjoy my role supporting students to reach their full potential. Students can work efficiently and reach their targeted skills quickly by being in small Intervention groups. Their progress gives full satisfaction and inspiration for me to do my best. – by Madhu
