Parent Information

Things to be Noted by Parents/Carers

  1. Lateness: If your son/daughter arrives after the morning school bell they must be signed in via the Kiosk (Computer) in the School Reception using a swipe card. The receipt is given to the class teacher. For early departure from school the same process applies but the student receives the receipt. Parent permission must still be provided. An email will be sent to the student’s parents for late arrival or early departure via the Kiosk. You can read more details on this new process below.
  2. Visitors: Parents and Carers who enter the school site to meet with staff, must be signed in via the NSW Services App and QR Code at the school Reception.
  3. Mobile Phones: For students from P – 9 we have a policy of no mobile phones during the school day. Students in Years 10 -12 may sensibly use phones during breaks.
  4. Reception Staff: There have been some changes in office personnel for this year. Mrs Trish McPherson will be working with Rev. Stephen Price in the William Cowper Reception (Years 7 – 9), Mrs Sarah Pezzuto moves to the Senior Secondary office (Years 10-12) with Mrs Dianne Cameron and Mrs Dimity Saunders is based in Brisbane Street Reception, supporting Mr Mark Doran (Deputy Principal), Mr Stephen Lawson (Director of Studies) and Mr Rob Marchetto (Director of Quality Teaching and Learning.) Mrs Mel Archbold remains as the Junior School Office Assistant (Prep – Year 6).
  5. Incoming Phone: Calls to the school should be directed to 02 5776 5100, with a recorded message providing options for specific extensions. Parents do not need to wait for the full message if they know the correct option to choose.

School Pick-Up and Drop-offs

It is customary that early school year traffic is somewhat chaotic. This is certainly our experience this year, particularly on the William Cowper Campus. Whilst there are no longer Senior students involved, a higher volume of cars has slowed the morning and afternoon flow.

Thank you for the patience you have shown in maintaining the flow as best as possible, particularly around Moore Creek Rd and keeping students safe – our first concern. I was caught in the slow traffic today but was impressed with the patience shown by all drivers. Thanks for this. We are working with Tamworth Regional Council and as a staff to improve the flow and take measures to improve efficiency. As increased numbers of students catch buses and the term settles, things will improve. Please remain patient as we navigate the changes we have made, which are designed to support student safety. We will monitor the situation around each of our campuses carefully.

  1. Kiss and Drop pick up on the William Cowper Campus: To assist the traffic flow from Moore Creek Road we have installed an extension to the Kiss and Drop lanes which now includes a roundabout to the left. All cars, wanting to use Kiss and Drop Lane, must enter on the left of the driveway and proceed around the roundabout. Cars picking up Secondary students of an afternoon are to continue on around the back of the hall and then pick up from the hall veranda. Junior School students are to be collected in the Turning Circle Kiss and Drop. Secondary students with siblings in the Junior School should join them in the turning circle. The dirt car park should not be used for pick-up. Staff will be on duty to assist.
  2. Turning Circle on Brisbane Street Campus: Drop-off and collection of students on Brisbane Street campus should take place on Raglan Street, particularly during the morning and afternoon peak times. Please observe signs and parking zones, avoiding the bus bays. The front turning circle can be used at other times, particularly by Boarder families. The Bourke Street entry should be used by buses and staff members who are travelling between campuses.

New Attendance Terminals

New Attendance Terminals are now located in strategic points across both campuses in order to make signing in and signing out of students a more efficient process. The two large terminals located in Reception at both campuses allow students to use their student ID cards (in Secondary) or their barcoded bag tags (in the Junior School) to scan themselves out of school in the case of an appointment, illness, an external class or for family reasons. Reception staff will check that permission has been given by the parent via phone, email or if there in person before a student is permitted to sign themselves out. Once a student has signed themselves out at Reception, parents will automatically receive an email to indicate that their child has signed out along with the date, time and reason selected for signing out.

Attendance terminals located at reception as well as both libraries and the Senior Study Centre on the Brisbane St Campus are available for Secondary students to sign in to school as well cutting down on time spent going to reception if their class is closer to the library or Senior Study Centre. Secondary students will also be required to sign in and out of their Study Periods as well as if they are going to other in-school appointments such as the ILC or Health Centre.

2021 school student travel

A new application should be submitted if a student is applying for a school travel pass for the first time or requesting an additional pass as a result of a new shared parental responsibility situation (e.g. joint custody):

https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/#/howToApply

Please note: Students who have changed school/campus, changed address, repeated a year or received an expiry notification from Transport for NSW for their school travel entitlement should re-apply or update their details.

Students residing in Rural and Regional (R&R) areas should receive their travel pass at the commencement of the new school year from their nominated operator, this may be distributed via the school or sent direct to their address. Note: some R&R operators do not issue travel passes. Students/Parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.

Information is available via this same link regarding Subsidised travel to and from school in private vehicles in areas where there is no public transport available. If you think you may qualify, check the information provided by Transport NSW.
