Spotlight:
Year 3/4 Community
Topic: Rights and Responsibilities
In the Year 3/4 Community, students have been learning about rights and responsibilities. They discovered that with rights, come responsibilities to uphold. Students have been discussing responsibilities that they have at home and at school, including;
- Looking after pets
- Helping with the dishes
- Being a role model for their younger brother and/or sister
- Keeping their tubs tidy
- Putting the chrome books away neatly
Students looked at the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and discussed the value and importance of these rights, including;
- The right to be free
- To feel safe
- To be protected from harm
- To be able to learn and grow up to be the best person they can be.
We discussed the responsibilities we have as Australian citizens, in order for these rights to be successful for all children. Students identified that they need to be careful to ensure that they don't make each other feel unsafe, undervalued and the importance of not interfering with the learning of each other.
