Installation - Self Portraits with Amulets, ECP 2020

The sources of inspiration for this installation was the artwork by Kate Beynon, Self Portrait with amulets and shadows, from the Collection Leads: Kindred Spirits art exhibition at the Geelong Art Gallery in 2020. The Beynon painting was originally an entrant in the 2017 Archibald Prize. 

During the 2020 ECP, students of 8B and 8L Textiles and 9 Visual Art elective made soft sculpture, fabric “amulets.” Year 10 Visual Art and VCE Unit 1 Studio Arts students created interpretive and expressive self-portraits with amulets, using mixed media on card. Overall, about 100 students were involved.

Collaboratively, the installation soft sculpture pieces were completed and then arranged for installation with the self-portraits by some of the ECP year 10 Textiles students assisting Ms Welsh and Ms van Galen.
