Spotlight on New Staff 2021

Every year we take the opportunity to introduce our new staff to the wider HCC community. We will do this over the next few editions of the newsletter. This week we would love to introduce to you: Mrs Miriam Karelsky and Miss Erin Robinson.

Miriam Karelsky

Q1. What subject/s and year level/s do you teach?

This year I'm teaching Year 7 English and Humanities, Year 9/10 Legal Elective, Year 12 Specialist Maths, Year 12 Physics and Year 12 Legal Studies.

Q2. Where have you taught previously?

Over the last couple of years, I have been teaching at Stott's College which is a VCE school for International Students located in the City.

Q3. What motivated/led you to becoming a teacher?

I wanted to become a teacher because I love working with others and I wanted to have a job where I felt that I made a difference that helped to shape the future - and what better than helping future generations find their path in this world!

Q4. What were your first impressions of HCC?

HCC appeared to me to be like a large family setting where students are nurtured. Everyone seems to me so friendly and welcoming!

Q5. What are your hobbies/extra interests?

I love to read and travel.  I recently went to Wilson's Prom and am currently planning a weekend trip away to the Grampians.

Erin Robinson

Q1. What subject/s and year level/s do you teach?

I will be teaching primary art.

Q2. Where have you taught previously?

This is my first teaching job. I have previously taught children’s ministry at my church and also work at a holiday program.

Q3. What motivated/led you to becoming a teacher?

I previously studied landscape architecture and while studying I worked as a swimming teacher and taught children’s ministry at my church. During this time I realised that I had a passion for teaching, so I went back to university and studied to become a teacher. I’m excited to be able to combine my love of teaching and art together!

Q4. What were your first impressions of HCC?

I was struck by how welcoming and inclusive everyone is and I look forward to being part of the school.

Q5. What are your hobbies/extra interests?

In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, creating artworks, going for walks and baking.
