Safer Internet Day

 On Tuesday February 8th Safer Internet Day was recognised worldwide. This is a global initiative that brings families, schools, organisations and governments from 170 countries together to raise awareness about online safety.

There is no place for online abuse. We can all help to make life online enjoyable by being kind and respectful to each other.

 

Our Grade 6's shared their thoughts and feelings about what being safe online means to them and the conversations are endless with not enough time to discuss all their thoughts. This is a true indication of how broad the topic of being safe online and that ongoing discussions need to be had both at school and at home.

Parents have an important role to play in children’s online lives and evidence shows that their awareness and digital involvement has increased since 2016. But there are still some significant gaps – especially around children’s exposure to potentially harmful online content. 

This research explores the opportunities and risks that the internet presents for children in Australia, based on a national survey of more than 3,500 young people aged 8 to 17, and their parents.
