Year 7 Induction and Scavenger Hunt

Over the past two weeks the library has hosted an induction session for the new year 7 cohort.  The ‘scavenger hunt’ is a creative exercise with the purpose familiarizing students with library spaces, the large physical collection of books available for borrowing and to demonstrate the electronic resources available for research so that they are able to navigate these spaces independently.  The library was buzzing with students who could be seen searching the library catalogue, scouring through newspapers for information and getting in amongst the book stacks to find the answers to ‘scavenger hunt’ questions.

The session wrapped up with students borrowing their first library book which will be used in their wider reading assignment/presentation in Term 1.

Book Club

There is a call to action for students who would like to join the new MGSC Book Club. Book Clubs are a great way to engage with students who share a love of literature as they will get the opportunity to read diverse books, share their ideas and gain new perspectives. The library will provide book club titles to students and it is anticipated we will meet once a term during lunchtime.

There is an ‘expression of interest’ form on the library home page for students to register or they are welcome to email library@mgsc.vic.edu.au with their details.
