Debating Club

The new Debating Club held their first get together for the year on Tuesday with a huge turnout of students interested in participating in a debating team. We started gently but looking at some examples of some of the skills we need to develop and some of the basic rules of engagement. 

With such a large group on the day, we all participated in a series of This or That with students volunteering statements and then following up with a rebuttal. This was all off the tops of heads and on the spot. It was fantastic to see so many students showing interest. We will be compiling some list of topics and students are encouraged to contribute to this so we have topics and issues of personal interest. 

From these topic lists, we will settle on some topics to prepare some short debates just within our group to start with while we learn the procedures. We are hoping to put together several teams across various year levels and also establish a House competition a little later in the term.

Even if you missed the first meeting please come along next Tuesday to Room 6 at lunchtime with your  lunch.
