Welcome!

A huge welcome to our new Year 7 students and a big welcome back to our Year 8s. We hope they had a great holiday and are ready for a productive year! We also extend a very warm welcome to all new Year 8 students. We hope you settle in quickly and make lots of new friends.

Thank you to all of the teachers who were involved in the two day transition program for year 7 students. The students had a great few days getting to know their classmates and teachers, getting connected to the network, familiarising themselves with school rules and expectations and navigating around the school on a scavenger hunt! Even though they were all wearing masks, we could tell they were all smiling!

Congratulations Petra Witt!!

A huge congratulations to Petra Witt for 10 consecutive years as a Year 7 Student Manager at MGSC! Petra is a valuable member of the Junior School Team with a lot of knowledge and expertise in managing student transition from Primary to Secondary School. She always has a smile on her face and is supportive not only to the Junior School students but the teams she has worked with over the years. Thank you for your dedication to the Junior School!

Uniform items

Could parents please make sure that ALL clothing is clearly named. We often find jumpers, blazers or PE hats left at school and we cannot return it if it is not named.

Year 7 Camp – Arrabri Lodge

All Year 7 students will be attending a camp at Arrabri Lodge in Warburton East in the week commencing 21 February. Camps dates are:

CAMP 1 – 7A, B, C, G:    Monday 21 to  Wednesday 23 February

CAMP 2 – 7D, E, F, H:     Wednesday 23 to Friday 25 February

This is a fantastic opportunity for the students to get to know each other and for them to get to know their teachers in a relaxed setting. More information regarding Year 7 camp and for parents to provide consent is on Mentone Girls’ Secondary College Compass Parent Portal. 

Year 7 Parent Information Evening 

It was great to see so many Year 7 Parents be able to join us online for our information night earlier this week. A recording of the presentation was taken, so if you weren’t able to connect, please look through your emails for the link. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

Year 8 Elevate

The Year 8 students attended a session on time management run by Elevate Education in the first week of term. These skills will stand them in good stead for all years and we encourage the students to practise them so that they become more effective learners. 

Elevate Parent Session - Year 7, 8 & 9

Elevate will be running an online Parent Session on Tuesday 22 March, 5-6pm to all families in Year 7, 8 and 9, as we would like you to hear the information so that you can encourage and support your daughter in using some study skills at home. More information to come via Compass Newsfeed.

Acting Director of Junior School - Tess Molina

I commence parenting leave this week, leaving our Junior School in the hands of Acting Director Ms Tess Molina and the Student Managers.  Tess and I have been working together since late last year and I know our year 7 and 8 students are in capable hands and will have a fantastic year.
