From the School Leadership Team,

From Mr. Chant.

Principal.

After such a positive start to the school year, I look forward to the year ahead and I am confident that we are ready for the challenges that the learning journey will bring for students, staff and the wider CJC community. We are working towards raising expectations for our students to an even higher level, ensuring our staff are delivering a differentiated curriculum, continue working in collaborative teams and we need to make sure that we are all working on the improvement agenda that will continue to build the Caulfield Junior College as a proud school with a strong community focus and a vibrant place for everyone to learn.

Chinese New Year celebration has already commenced and lasts for 15 days. This year the Tiger is the zodiac symbol for the New Year celebration which signals the start of the Spring Festival. Families will gather to feast, celebrate and honour their gods and families. My best wishes to our families and students as they start their New Year celebrations.

COVID updates are being sent each day and we will try to get this information to the CJC community promptly. Make sure you notify the school if there is a positive case so we can support the family and protect our community. Keep up the good work.

Overall, we have had a successful start to the academic year. Mask wearing has been consistent, the additional masks that you are providing for your children are ensuring that they are protected. Teachers have windows and doors open to maximise ventilation and the air purifiers have been delivered to the classrooms and are all in use. Additionally, we are ensuring that we are limiting the mixing of classes and encouraging the use of outdoor spaces to align with the COVID operations guide.

These actions have led to consecutive days without any new cases in our school, everyone is to be congratulated for the joint effort.

We should be receiving our next supply of RA tests next week, when they arrive, we will communicate through Compass regarding the distribution of these to families. Again, thank you for your continued support.

Recently I was contacted by a number of parents expressing concerns about unsafe driving and parking around our school during morning drop off time. Unfortunately, this is an ongoing issue in our school community and puts the safety of our students at risk.

On my morning gate duty I noticed cars double parked for children to exit, cars stopping in Sebastapol Street to watch their children enter the gates and cars pulling into private driveways.

Please familiarise yourself with the expectations when dropping off children at school in a vehicle. These parking guidelines come from Glen Eira City Council.

U turns in Balaclava Road outside the school are illegal (not to mention dangerous).

Please use the school crossing.

No Parking areas outside of schools (otherwise known as Kiss and Go parking) are designed

to provide safe and convenient pick up and drop off areas for the school community.

The No Parking (Kiss and Go) zones are for short-term stopping only.  They are located to ensure consistent turnover of vehicles during peak pick up/drop off periods.

At a No Parking (Kiss and Go) sign, a vehicle is permitted to stop for up to 2 minutes, while children safely exit or enter the car. The driver must remain within three metres of the vehicle.

Our prep students are now learning five days per week! Their online testing has been completed and this important data is supporting teacher planning and curriculum differentiation in this area of the school. Their collective ability to settle into the routine of school has been fantastic to watch.

COMPASS is our communication platform. Parents need to activate the App on their phones or devices to receive the updates and news that is sent to families regarding events, bookings, payments and permissions. The recently completed Parent Teacher conversations were booked using COMPASS. Our office can assist you if you are experiencing any difficulties with this new system.
