Thank you for your donations for the Vinnies Christmas Hampers

The SRC and Service Captain Michael Doohan thank you all for the donations which totalled 50 baskets plus $3000 in boxed goods. This is an outstanding effort, and these generous gifts will certianly make a difference to many families in Cairns and surrounding areas this Christmas. Here is a message from Michael:

Housing in Cairns is scarce, employment hasn’t been restored to pre-covid condition, and it  looks as if it will be a very grim Christmas for thousands of Australians. In week 6 I challenged the gents to give a few dollars to the Vinnies Christmas Hamper Appeal, and we have done so much more than that. At the time of writing, we, as a college, have filled 50 laundry baskets, 50 baskets that will go to people in our local community. This effort will make a colossal impact on those in need, and all I can do is say thank you; thank you for getting around this cause, and thank you for thinking of others.

Daniel Leibinger's Vinnies Challenge

To provide extra incentive to the lads, I made a promise. Initially, if we reached $500 and filled three baskets with food, I said I'd buzz my hair for the cause. Fortunately, we smashed the goal with time to spare so the benchmarks continued. With consent, our sports captain raised his hand for $750. Finally, our magnum opus, after reaching the required $1000, Deputy Principal Mr Rigby also promised to get a buzz cut. It was good to get the lads donating and a great feeling knowing we’re making someone else’s Christmas brighter.

SRC Reps of 2022

I thank the SRC reps of 2022 for their outstanding contribution to the College. They engaged in many activities throughout the year including reading at Friday morning Mass, collecting the Vinnies donations and representing the College in a variety of ways. They have displayed Marist characteristics during their leadership, and Saints recognises and thanks them. It is truly inspiring to work with such compassionate and thoughtful young men.

Service Awards

This year, many students have completed  college-organised and self-initiated service. Forty students from Years 7-11 were presented at our final assembly yesterday with awards  ranging from bronze to platinum. The highest award reflects 40+ hours of combined service in the College and in the community. In addition, six students were recognised for their service in IT at the College. Congratulations and well done to Mathew Christensen, Michael Doolan, Patrick Maher, Oliver Jones and Finn Slade. Your IT service has been invaluable!
