News from Matt Di Salvo

Head of Sport

Thank you for 2022

I take this opportunity to thank the staff and students who have made 2022 a successful year in sport. The commitment of our staff and students ensures the success of our sport program. I particularly thank Mr John Brimstone and Mr Chris Di Lucchio for their work within the Sport Department this year. With their help and the help of the wider staff, we could enact various innovations to improve the sport program. I am looking forward to a bigger and better 2023.

Wednesday Sport in 2023

Wednesday sport will begin in week 2 of Term 1. Sport selections will run through Trybooking again and details regarding these selections will be communicated beforehand. Trials for 2023 CISSA teams will also occur during weeks 1 and 2.

TCC Sport

St Augustine's is part of the Trinity Coast Central (TCC) District within school sport. TCC is the pathway to represent the Peninsula region in Queensland School Sport Championships. The TCC sign-up process is electronic in 2023 with students able to register their interest for the trials by completing a Microsoft form from their accounts (further details are below). This will ensure that a parent slip is sent home before the trials with the necessary paperwork. These forms should then be re-uploaded to the parent slip with permission attached for approval by Mr Seivers. Alternatively, please email the forms to me at sac.sport@cns.catholic.edu.au if you have any difficulties reuploading the form to the parent slip. A TCC calendar will be shared at the beginning of 2023.

The St Augustine’s TCC application process is outlined below.

  1. Students complete the TCC Sport Microsoft form from their accounts to register their interests in their chosen TCC sports. If students wish to trial for more than two sports in a calendar year, they must apply by emailing me and I will seek an exemption from Mr Seivers.
  2. Before the trials, a parent slip will be sent home with documents attached for completion to grant permission for your son to attend the trials.
  3. Parents or guardians must complete the Peninsula student permission details and consent form and upload it to the parent slip. This form must be submitted before the parent slip is completed. Alternatively, this form can be sent to sac.sport@cns.catholic.edu.au
  4. The College will ensure that Mr Seivers signs the document. Students will then collect the signed document from the student office and take it to their trials.
  5. Students must have this booklet completed to be allowed to trial for a TCC team.

Students are no longer required to complete a Request for Leave form if they are absent from school for TCC or Peninsula school-based sport. However, parents or guardians mustemail sac.absences@cns.catholic.edu.au to advise of the upcoming school sport related absence. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that he contacts his teachers about any work he may miss, keeping up to date with classwork and submitting any assignments due during his absence.

Congratulations to Seth McGinty

Congratulations Seth McGinty who has been selected to represent Queensland in the National Under-17 Cricket Championships in Hobart in January. This is an outstanding achievement for Seth who is the only representative from regional Queensland in the squad. Seth will be mentored by Gavin Fitness, who is part of the Queensland Bulls and Brisbane Heat coaching staff and former Australian player, Ryan Harris. More information can be found at https://www.qldcricket.com.au/news/u17-squad-released/2022-11-16. Good luck Seth!
