Dear members of the Saints family
This week the College magazine arrived on my desk. The annual publication of Tolle Lege is designed to capture the year that was. It is a historical record of St Augustine’s that showcases the wide variety of educational opportunity we offer. Flipping through its pages, it seems a lifetime ago that 2022 began, once again, in the shadow of Covid. While the first two weeks were online learning, and some events in Term 1 were adjusted, the remainder of the year flowed relatively smoothly.
Upon reflecting on the year through the lens of Tolle Lege it is clearly evident that our students, staff and families have participated in the many opportunities afforded them. These opportunities help form the fabric of our Marist characteristics where love of work and presence in how we develop relationships are integral to the family spirit that exemplifies our college community.
These opportunities are at the heart of what we do at St Augustine’s: to produce good Christian and good citizens. This is a calling to help produce men that can go out into the world and make a difference. It is a simple yet powerful purpose behind what we are trying to achieve at Saints. Pope John Paul said, “A single individual is enough for hope to exist”. The good news is that Marist communities are full of single individuals that together create a caring and powerful culture.
Therefore, I congratulate our students – congratulations on your achievements this year. Well done on your efforts in engaging in all the opportunities this college presents. What students give every lesson, each day, and each week comes back to them in so many rewarding ways.
Year 7 Orientation Day
Our Year 12s of 2022 were farewelled several weeks ago and last week we hosted our Year 12s of 2028. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting them and look forward to beginning our relationship with our newest students as well as their families.
Financial Advisory Committee (FAC)
The College’s FAC plays a significant role in our college and in supporting me. I thank them for their contribution and commitment to Saints. I have enjoyed working with the College Board and have benefited from the many discussions and shared wisdom.
On behalf of the College I thank the following board members:
Thank you
I extend a special thank you to Mr John Brimstone, Acting Director of Administration, who ends his time on the Leadership Team at the end of the year. Mr Brimstone’s knowledge of the school, coupled with his energy and superb organisational skills have enabled the College to make a smooth transition after changes midyear. Mr Brimstone has worked closely with Mr Heath McKenzie who will take on the role in 2023.
I take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff for their dedication and commitment to their roles in the College during 2022. It is a pleasure to work in a school where staff professionalism is clearly evident. I have felt great support from all staff during the year, and particularly in the last six months, and I know how much they want to make St Augustine the best school possible.
I also thank Br John and the Brothers' community for all they have done throughout the year and their continual support of St Augustine’s. We are blessed to have the Marist Brothers as part of this community.
Finally, as we prepare for the Christmas break, I thank all families for their valuable contributions and support during 2022. I wish all families a happy, holy and safe Christmas and look forward to reuniting in 2023.
