10 Art Portrait Collage Drawings

It’s always great to be able to share and celebrate our student artistic achievements at EDSC.

During Semester 2, our Year 10 Art students worked through a studio process to develop an idea based on Portraiture and combined this with another theme/idea of choice.

Some of these themes included: Connection to Nature; Pain and Suffering; Hope and Chaos; Emotion; Authority and Struggle; Self Discovery.

Students were encouraged to develop their ideas based on their chosen theme, through mind mapping, annotating existing artist’s works, as well as exploring and testing out a variety of media and developing drawings that would explore their intended idea or message.

These drawings then formed the basis of a final artwork that was executed in their chosen media, paper and/or collaged with found materials in an intuitive way.

The end result being some beautiful expressions of Portraiture acting as a vehicle to connect ideas or messages to an audience.

These works were on display in the library and received many positive comments from both students and staff.

I commend these students for their perseverance, resilience and ability to complete their final artworks, after such a lengthy lockdown period.

Year 8 Lino Prints

Our Year 8 Art students were in full flight production mode upon their return from lockdown in Term 4.

Students had 5 weeks to transfer, carve and print their lino carvings, which was a mammoth task, but one that students were keen to undertake.

Students worked from their Zentangle animal drawings from Cycle 5 and/or adapted one of their earlier drawings completed during the semester.

Whilst the carving process took time and was challenging, the excitement and aw students expressed once they learnt and applied the printing process was great to witness.

Students chose to print their work onto a collaged paper background, which resulted in some very unique and expressive artworks.

Please enjoy viewing a sample of some students works from 8B and 8L via the slideshow attached.
