Parent Survey 2021 Feedback Meetings, Student Supervision Before School, Masks Update

Dear Parents/Guardians

It has been an excellent first few weeks at school and I am very pleased with the way the students have commenced the year. I am very impressed with the wonderful range of learning activities I see as I walk around the school each day and can assure you that your children are very well taught and cared for here at Heatherton Christian College. We are currently awaiting updated operational guidelines from the Department of Education as to what restrictions will remain in place from next week onwards. As we don’t know yet whether we can hold ‘gatherings’ at school, I would like to invite anyone who is interested to an online meeting where I will share feedback from our 2021 parent survey. I will run a couple of meetings and you are free to join either. The meetings are as follows on Teams (you do not need an account or need Teams downloaded to join the meeting).

Student Supervision Before School

I would like to remind our community that supervision of students at Heatherton Christian College commences at 8:15am each morning. At HCC we take our duty of care in supervising students very seriously. What this means in practice is that no student is allowed on the school site before 8:15am and remains the responsibility of their parents/carers outside of advertised school supervision times.

In order to comply with our duty of care, if a student is dropped off at school before 8:15am their parent/carer will be contacted and asked to pick them up and then drop them off again at 8:15am when supervision starts. We do understand that this is difficult for some families and we are open to the possibility of starting before-school care if there is enough need. If you are interested in before-school care, please register your interest by emailing the College office at office@hcc.vic.edu.au.

Masks Update

From next week only students in Grades 3-6 are required to wear masks while indoors at school. Staff who teach these students are also required to wear masks. Secondary students no longer need to wear masks but are most welcome to continue wearing them if they would like to.

Please do not hesitate to come and speak to me if you have any questions.
