In our Support Unit

Welcome back

We have all experienced a very different type of everyday life over the past couple of months. For students in our Support classes, these times have proven to be very challenging.

Experiences for each child and for each family has been different. Students missed their daily routine and for some, their anxiety peaked – some students presumed they were suspended from school or that they were in some kind of trouble. Others thought the Principal had asked them to stay home. Our dedicated staff prepared our students for the change in routine through social stories and explicit teaching about Covid-19.

A time of change is the time to learn something new

Our parents were able to download Microsoft Teams for their children to access lessons on line. I congratulate the teachers and parents for working together in delivering quality learning at home. Students were excited to see their peers and teachers online. It was a wonderful  experience and a great boost of confidence for students and their parents.

Should my child come to school?

Students in our Support Unit classes are very welcome to attend school – we are definitely open and we look forward to teaching our students.  Our structured daily routine for students continues, with staff and students practicing hygiene (washing hands well for at least 20 seconds often with hand sanitiser and paper towels close by). Safe distancing at school is practiced.

Keep in touch!

Please keep in touch with us and be kind to yourself.  if you have any questions or concerns, we are here to help you.

All our students continue to be Respectful, Responsible and Successful.

Chromebooks

Students from the SE Blue class of the Support Unit have begun completing their morning English lessons by utilising the library’s Chromebooks. The morning English lessons require students in the Support Unit to log into their student NSW Department of Education portals, access the Office365 application and type all their work into the OneNote application.

This is a great achievement for students in the Support Unit and aids in improving their literacy and technology skills. Congratulations to Noaha Axford, Abdul Barghachoun, Portia Magallanes and Christian Kupkovic.

Food Technology

Our students in the Support Unit have been busy preparing and cooking in Food Technology this Term. They made Mother's Day heart shaped cookies and decorated them beautifully to present to their mothers on Mother's Day.
