University of Wollongong Excursion

On Monday 6 February, thirty-five adventurous Year 12 students made the journey to Wollongong to experience a day in the life of a university student and explore post school options.

After dining at their motel the students went tenpin bowling, something they don’t get to participate in very often.

The students participated in the University of Wollongong Discovery Day activities on campus on Tuesday which started with a welcome and general introduction. The students went off to four information sessions of their choice. These ranged from sessions discussing university life in general to sessions informing them about what subjects are studied in different courses on offer there and what careers these qualifications may lead to. Students also learned about international study opportunities and exchange programs available at this university.

Jackson Oliver, a student who attended said "It was an extremely enjoyable experience and well worth it. You really get to see what uni is about and get an insight into what a student’s life is like."

This is the fifth year the students of Cowra High have been given this fantastic opportunity. Careers Adviser, Ms Prue Williams, who accompanied the students said “I recommend all students considering attending university visit at least two or three different university campuses so they have something to compare. Attending university is a huge investment so days such as these are very useful in helping students make some of the big decisions concerning their future education. They make the websites real!”

Cowra High School would like to thank the University of Wollongong for their financial assistance to make this invaluable excursion possible for our senior students.
