Year 8 are driving a collection of Men's Toiletries for Matthew Talbot Hostel
This week the cycle begins again at St Pius X College with the Year 12 students accepting roles of leadership within the College. Leadership has many facets including it being an honour but also a personal challenge of commitment to oneself and in their relationships with others. Jesus defines his understanding of leadership as: “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave - just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:26–28). And so the greatest of all leadership is servant leadership. As the Year 12 students begin their journey may they feel the support of our community as they look to Jesus as the perfect role-model of leadership.
The 2016/17 Social Justice Statement ‘A Place at the Table: Social Justice in an Ageing Society’ highlights a number of important aspects concerning those in our community who are journeying into old age. More than two-thirds of Australians over 75 are in good health and play an active role in their families and community. This document recognises the important role that families and social networks play in promoting longer life and greater community engagement of their ageing family members. At St Pius X College we always welcome the involvement of our grandparents at our various events and enjoy the many contributions and support they bring as part of our extended community. In the words of Bishop Vincent Long Van Nguyen: ‘The wisdom and lived experience of older people are priceless treasures that can enrich our lives’.
