Year 12 2017 Leaders' Pledge

Lord God,

We, the Seniors and Prefects of St Pius X College,

pledge ourselves on behalf of the student body

to provide Christian leadership for the College community.

As we prepare for the journey through our Senior Year,

we ask you to walk with us.

May we be leaders in your name.

May we be to our fellow students, men of courage and compassion –

strong to stand up for that which promotes peace and justice in the classroom,

on playing fields and in the school yard.

We pledge to use our authority to help and empower others.

Amen

The College congratulates Year 12 2017 on their Investiture in the Chatswood Concourse on Monday afternoon. The occasion was especially marked by the clear showcase of this wonderful group. In congratulating them I remarked:

“in every way you are a group with incredible talent

which will follow our fine tradition in the school.

A balance of intellect, culture, sporting and spirit

with the potential to succeed in all aspects of our school.

Your group is unique.”

Year 12 have been challenged to build the dignity and self-esteem of all students at St Pius X College. The full transcript of my speech is below. We ask for God’s blessing on Year 12 2017 as they enter their HSC year.

2017 College Captain Joseph Unwin delivered an outstanding address setting the direction for the students in our 80th Anniversary Year. Joe gave great emphasis to the individuality of every person in the school. In his inspirational remarks, Joe exhorted his Year 12 peers and the student body:

“There is a spark in all of us.

But our greatest challenge in life is how we ignite that spark.”

The full text of Joe’s speech as well as more photos has been captured in the beautiful edition entitled “SPX Year 12 Special Edition” prepared by Mr Danny John which is attached.

EREA RENEWAL ASSEMBLY

Following our EREA Renewal process held in Term 1 of this year, EREA has a process in place whereby the Executive Director of EREA (Wayne Tinsey) visits the College community at a special Renewal Assembly. At the Assembly the highlights of the Renewal are outlined and a recommitment is made to Catholic education in the Edmund Rice Tradition and to the Edmund Rice Charter. In our own case this will also involve the launch of our new Strategic Improvement Plan.

The SPX Renewal Assembly with Dr Wayne Tinsey will be held on Monday 31 October at 10.00am in the College Gymnasium. The Assembly will conclude at 11.00am. Parents are welcome and invited to join us.

The report from the St Pius X College EREA Renewal Report as well as the 2017-2019 Strategic Improvement Plan may be found on the College website.

FOUNDER'S DAY FESTIVAL – LUNCH FOR THE STUDENTS

DONATIONS NEEDED – PLEASE HELP

On Friday 25  November, the College will hold its annual Founder’s Day Festival with a focus on raising funds for our partners in St Mary’s Bowraville, St Joseph’s Walgett and Callan Services PNG. As part of the event, the food for the lunch for students has previously been provided by one of our very generous parents. This has then been cooked and served by our parent helpers and Senior Students on the day.

Unfortunately this year our generous parent is unable to assist us with donations towards the food and I am appealing to any parent or company who may be able to offer donations of food or finances for Founders Day.

If you can help please contact Mr Couani through Ann Brady on 9414 4312 or email abrady@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au
