School Athletics, Holt District Lightning Premiership Soccer

and Friday/Community Sport

It has been a huge couple of weeks in sport with our House Athletics Carnival, Holt District Lightning Premiership as well as Friday/Community Sport beginning with a very lucky break in the weather for an hour. A very big thank-you to our parent volunteers for all events, you make my life so much easier and the students love having the coaching expertise from those in our community.

Well done to the girls soccer team who had a clean sweep on the day winning all of their matches and only conceding one goal. They will now progress through to the Beachside Division on Tuesday 23rd July, the venue is yet to be confirmed. A special mention to our super coaches Andi S and Jamie P.

Please see below for some recounts from some of our Year 6 students.

Our last primary school athletics carnival was a blast on a whole new level!  Our day was packed with fun, friendship and support which shone throughout the day! The results were Gold House 1st,  runner up was Red house, then Blue house and last was Green house, who won the spirit award. The year sixes can’t believe that primary school has gone so fast! Our sporting experiences have been out of this world! So many sport memories have been fulfilled. Thanks so much to each and everyone of our past sport leaders. St James couldn’t do what we’ve ever accomplished.

Congratulations everyone, you did amazing and we would like to Thank Mrs Mac, Mrs Kidman and all the Parents and teacher volunteers! You made this day happen!

I finally had sight of the finish line and the crowd went wild. Ok maybe I was over exaggerating a little. On Wednesday the 1st of May we had the St James Athletic Carnival. We had 9 athletic activities which were long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put, discus, 100, 200, 800 metres, and relays. We all had so much fun and some of us even got drenched by the rain. In the end we all tried our very best but Gold was announced the winner of the day.

On Friday, the 3rd of May, 1 team of 16 girls and 1 team of 16 boys, went to Caulfield Park to represent St James in the Holt soccer. Each team did really well and both got to the semi finals. The boys lost 1-0, but the girls won 5-0. That put them into the grand final. In the grand final the girls won 5-1.

We thank Mrs Mac, Mrs Herbert, Andi, Jamie, and all the parents who came and supported us. We couldn’t have done it without them.

Soccer was a great day overall and everyone there enjoyed it very much. We left St James at about 9.00am and we picked up St Joseph’s on the way. When we arrived we started warming up for the day ahead of us. There was a boys team and a girls one. The girls won overall  but the boys lost in the semis unfortunately. My highlight of the day was winning a game 8-0 it was a great day and I enjoyed it so much

Holt District Cross Country

On Friday 17th May all students will be heading to Ball Hill Park in Clayton to compete in the Holt District Cross Country. Students have been preparing for this day during their Physical Education classes at school. As per the CareMonkey students will leave school by bus at approximately 11.15am and return at approx 3pm. Students will need to wear their full sport uniform and bring a backpack with their lunch and drink bottle. There will be no lunch orders on this day for year 3-6only. I would also like to advise that students bring a change of runners and socks in case the course is quite wet.

Please see the timetable below for approximate event times:

Presentations 2.30pm

The first 10 place getters will be invited to participate in the Beachside Division Cross Country to be held on the 28th May. Depending on the number of students who make it through, parents are asked to accompany their children on this day.

Please note there will be no Friday/Community Sport this week due to the cross country and next week, due to the Walkathon.

AFL Football and Netball

Holt District Lightning Premierships

The Holt District AFL and Netball lightning premierships will be held in the second last week of this term. On Tuesday this week, the Netball teams were chosen. So we can maximise participation, we advise students that they must choose between Football and Netball. The football trials will be held in a few weeks.
