Year 6

Brighton Cluster Day

The first cluster day of 2019 was probably my favourite cluster day so far.

We did four activities with St Marys, St Finbars and St Joan Of Arc.

The activities were Stem, Basketball, Circle time (getting to know each other) and Kahoots (an app where you can create your own quiz). My personal favourite was Stem. In Stem we made a chair out of newspaper and sticky tape. We got put in a group, and our chair had to stand up with a stuffed animal sitting on it for 10 seconds. Luckily for me our group succeeded!

On cluster day we had a lot of fun and today I'm going to explain it to you why! My favourite activity was when we made catapults out of popsicle sticks and rubber bands. Our objective was to hit a target with a wooden bead with our catapults. We also played Kahoot where we had to create our own Quiz and we would show them all at the end. Another activity was basketball were we got into teams and played a match which was fun. Then we played a game called European handball where we were only allowed to take three  steps, then you had to either pass it or bounce it and then shoot it into the goal.

I also made a few friends which was good,so overall it was pretty fun!

Year 5

Our Cluster Day Experience

Cluster day was a great experience to come together and meet other grade 5 girls and boys who may be going to your high school, or to just meet some other people. The schools that we collaborated with were, St Joan of Arc,St Finbars and St Mary's. The activities that the Year 5 girls did there included spheros, art,a basketball match and team initiative games. We went to the school St Joan of Arc and St Finbars and St Mary’s came too. It was a great day and we all look forward to the next cluster day coming up in Term 3.  Lots of people made new friends and cluster day was a great experience for lots of people. Here are some of the activities we rotated through.

Initiative games

Initiative games were games we played inside a hall and we did games with balloons! This rotation was lead by Miss Contin!

Spheros/ STEM

For STEM/ spheros, we learnt how to code our spheros. We were in a group of  4 with a person from each school.

Art portraits

For art we did a creative portrait that explained who you are and what you do and enjoy to do.

Basketball

Basketball was my personally favourite activity we did!  (Stella). It was lots of fun because basketball is one of my favourite sports!

That was our fun first cluster day for Term 2, 2019 and we can't wait for the next one.

Cluster day grade 5 boys

The year 5 boys went to St Marys with  St Finbars and St Joan Of Arc.

The activities we did were basketball, making ads for robots, communication activities & kahoots! It was a great day! We all enjoyed it!

Family Week

This week is Catholic Care ‘Family Week’. The student shared their thoughts about family, and what their family means to them. They reflected on all the current ways their families maintained strong connections with each other. They also came up with ways they could inspire their families in the future - to build stronger connections with each other. Here are some posters created by Year 5s to show their thoughts.

Year 4 News

Last week we finished learning about time. We learnt things like 17:00 is 5:00pm and 20:34 is 8:34pm. It was extremely exciting. Right now we are learning about fractions. We have just learnt how to count by fractions. Now moving on to Writing. 1 term and a 1/2 ago we started writing stories. Most of us had very good stories. Personally, I like my story. We kept working on our stories and eventually we got the best of our stories. I have enjoyed all of the year. This concludes my statement. - Jamie H

In Year 4 we have had open mind sets and bright ideas. In the classroom this term we have been able to investigate a new spelling approach called SMART spelling program. With the SMART spelling program we have been able to have getting a better understanding of ways to spell out words out loud and in our head. SMART spelling will make us capable and much better at spelling in the near future. SMART spelling stands for Say, Meaning, Analyse, Remember and Teach. So like this us fellow students can learn in a fun and imaginative way. Year 4 has loved having the experience in using the smart spelling program this year. - Natalie D

Last term in Year 4 we did Connected Learning with the Year 3s; it was lots of fun. We learnt about character strengths. We watched a video about Ezra and how brave he was, as he had 28 operations and he played soccer. We worked in partners to find out each others character strengths. Thank you Miss Clingan for letting us work with the Year 3s. - Mia T

Last term Year 4 did the sacrament of Reconciliation. We were looking at the story of The Prodigal Son for preparation. We did a commitment mass presenting the Prodigal Son in a miming act. Then 1 to 2 weeks later we did our Reconciliation. Reconciliation is not just about telling Father Martin or Father Barry what bad things you have done but it’s a time to reflect on what bad and good things you have done and to think can I do better. It is also trying to make the right decision and a time to be welcomed back into the catholic church. - Millie W

The past couple of weeks we have been learning time then fractions and decimals. 01:25 is 1:25 am in the morning and 22:56 is 10:56 pm. Also this term we have been learning lots of fractions and decimals and percentages like 1 half is 50% and is 0.5 - Lachie W and Callum M

This Term In Connected learning, we have been learning about Our Story: New and Old when we do Connected learning with the Year Threes. We all love it because we are learning about the Indigenous Australians, and we get to work together and get to know each other. We are so lucky to have this opportunity thank you Mrs Clingan and Miss Nooy, you’re the best. - Pia R and Jess P

Last term Year 4 did their Reconciliation with St Joan of Arc. We even did a play of the Prodigal Son. All the parents came and a couple of the teachers went to the sacrament and all had a great time.  - Sam J-O
