WELLBEING
Be You is a website that was launched earlier in the year, it was previously known as beyond blue and also now incorporates headspace. The website has lots of information for parents, families and teaching staff at St James to assist the young people in our care to become the best person they can be.
To have a positive self-image and healthy relationships with others, children and young people need repeated experiences of having their needs met by a responsive and caring adult. Warm, trusting and responsive care towards children helps them respond with appropriate emotions, internalise a positive view of themselves and others, and learn appropriate behaviour. Children and young people also develop self-management skills by watching and experiencing how other people manage their emotions – they then gradually learn how to do this for themselves. https://beyou.edu.au/fact-sheets/wellbeing/self-management
With this in mind it is important to ensure that we are all role modelling best practice as often as we can for our children/students. We can support our children through this by ensuring we do the following:
- Preparing for the following day the night before. Check when homework is due, have sports clothes ready etc.
- Arrive on time-set an alarm so you know that you have to leave the house by this time or you will be late. When students arrive late to class it takes them longer to settle down and be ready to learn. It can also be disruptive if they miss vital elements of a task that may have already been explained.
- Wearing the correct uniform-now that we are in week 4 all students should be wearing the correct winter uniform for St James. Black runners are not to be worn with the winter uniform, they are not school shoes. Shirts should be tucked in at all times. This is about creating a sense of pride in our school community.

Family Week 2019 - Building Connections in the Spirit of Hope.
This year our school is participating in CatholicCare’s Family Week. Family Week is a time to celebrate what is good about our families, and to think about what can make them better.
Why is Family Week important?
We rely on our family when we are sad or when we need help. Having a happy family makes us feel that we have somewhere to belong. We need to celebrate all different types of families, because every family is important. Some families need help and support to be happy and healthy. Throughout the week we have encouraged the students to engage in activities that help to strengthen their relationships with their families.
Tomorrow the students are asked to wear a touch of green and bring a gold coin donation. All money raised will go to CatholicCare to support the amazing work they do with families in need.
Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist
This week the students have begun their preparation for the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. Each week the students focus on a different aspect of what it means to be a part of God’s family. We ask that you keep all the students in your prayers over the coming weeks.
