Uniform:  Please check your son’s summer uniform as they do tend to grow at this age and it may not fit.  Next week is the last week before the holidays for the uniform shop.

IPSHA Athletics Team:  Good luck to the boys who are in the IPSHA athletics team at today’s CIS trial.  Mr Virgona is the IPSHA team manager.  Have fun boys!

Walkathon:  Please remember to bring in donations.

Attendance/ Absenteeism:  Parents are to explain any student absence at their earliest opportunity by:

1. Ringing the attendance line - 9414 4377
2. Emailing The Attendance Roll Manager:  studentmanagement@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au
3. Using the portal to explain an absence:  http://iwise.stpiusx.nsw.edu.au/igloo/portal

by providing a written/printed note explaining the absence at the next available opportunity.  Communication must be addressed to the College staff and include the student’s full name, date/s of absence, student’s year and class group, reason for absence, likely return date, signatory’s details, relationship to the student and return contact.

Extra Holidays:  If you are aware that you are taking your son out of school for an extended break in the future it is a government regulation that you complete a form.  We will then mark the roll either 'absent explained' or 'leave approved' according to government guidelines and you will receive a confirmation letter.

Year 5 Family Day - Saturday 23rd September

A Family Fun Day for Year 5 families is planned for Saturday 23rd September from 2:00pm at Beauchamp Park in Nicholson Street, Chatswood.  BYO drinks and food. The class representatives will be providing pizzas for afternoon tea around 3:30pm.  Feel free to bring along soccer/rugby/AFL/ balls, cricket bats etc.

Junior Debating News

On Friday 8th September we travelled to Masada College at St Ives for Round 7 of the IPSHA competition.  The debate topic was “Mobile phones should be allowed in the classroom”  which was very challenging for both the affirmative and negative teams.

It has been a busy term with debates scheduled every fortnight throughout the term. Well done to the boys on their consistent efforts to attend training and work together on their debates. It has been a very successful term with so many wins both at home and away. Thank you to the parents who were able to attend and watch our boys. What a great learning experience debating has been for the boys. They have worked on developing their teamwork skills, self-confidence, working to a deadline and public speaking abilities.

We now turn our training to the preparation for the final debates at the IPSHA Gala Day hosted by Abbotsleigh Junior School on Monday 23rd October.

Thursday Sport: on at Oxford Falls with Summer Sport trials/training resuming for Basketball, Cricket, Softball and Tennis.

Year 5 Parents: At this stage I need to plan for Saturday Sport in 2018. I require all Year 5 boys to complete their Online Sport Preference Form for 2018. Relevant information is on the school website under General Sport Notices http://goo.gl/bfdT9a

NSTA Tennis: Grading for the new Term 4 Season will be completed in the coming 2 weeks. The season begins on 14th October and relevant information including team lists and a draw will be disseminated to players after the grading meeting.

Basketball: Grading resumes this Thursday. Team lists for the Term 4 Season will go online prior to terms end with the season draw and information letter also available (http://spx.nsw.edu.au/beyond-classroom/dsp-default.cfm?loadref=139). The first game of season is on Saturday 14th October. Good luck to the ‘A’ team who play in the Scots Hoops Tournaments this weekend. Game 1 is at 8.00am in the Senior School Gym (Lions Den).

Softball: A season draw and team list will be available in the next fortnight: (http://spx.nsw.edu.au/beyond-classroom/dsp-default.cfm?loadref=139). The first game of the Term 4 season is on Saturday 14th October.

Winter Sport/Co-curricular Photos: Our Winter Sport/Co-curricular photos have now been taken. Hard-copy order forms were given to students and are due back by the end of this term (to the office). A PDF form is also attached should you require it.
