JAPANESE DAY 2019

On the last day of term 3, it was Japanese day and all of the St James students had the opportunity to watch Miss Mion Kamei perform. Mion is a Japanese Sanshin guitarist. She was from Okinawa, which is located in the Southern islands of Japan. After her performance each class set up their own Japanese shops, selling Japanese items or letting students win prizes. To finish the day the school had one of Japan's most iconic foods, Sushi. Japanese day was a fun day and a great experience for the whole school. (Tamsin N - Y6)

Japanese day was spectacular. From hats to lucky charms, everyone had a fantastic time. Our class did awesome games, fishing and ring toss. There were five groups in our class-2 fishing groups and 3 ring toss groups. Our whole class managed 119,000 yen. At the end of the day, we had a special visitor. She did cultural dances and we joined in on some of them. Her singing was over-the-top and my favourite was the last one, where she taught us a chant. The chant was “Mata hirinu tsundara kanu samayo”. The whole day was fabulous and I thank Sensei alot for organising it. (Leni B - Y4)

What I liked about Japanese day was how all of the class activities were all different. I also liked how everyone worked together to set up the activities. I liked how all the games were fun. I liked how all the people treated each other. (Lorenzo I - Y4)

Japanese day was amazing! I loved the shopping aspect. I loved dressing up and had so much fun. Lots of people were not using the Japanese shopping script, so maybe enforce it a bit more. Grade 4 did 2 fishing games and 3 quoits games. Sensei was very kind to us and helped us prepare and get materials. Very kind! Loved the team aspect of the day and would love to do it again. (Emma B - Y4)

I liked Japanese day because we got to go shopping and I bought a mask from Foundation, a doll from Year 1, a Pikachu hat from Year 2, an emoji bookmark from Year 3 & I played a game from Year 4.

In my class we had two games one was fishing and the other was ring toss. We had so much fun together. (Kamran I - Y4)

I liked Japanese day because it was really fun and we did a lot of fun activities! Such as Masks and fun games! (Jessica P - Y4)

Japanese day was excellent and it was really fun! My favourite part was going to different shops and my favorite shop was the year 1’s bookmarks, that was cool.  When I came home, I told my mum and dad that I had a lot of experiences, what my favourite thing was and spoke some Japanese words to them.

I think it was really smart to say Japanese sentences to the shop keeper or the customer, that was also good. The different shops also tried to get the prize who made most money out of the classes! Everyone was very happy and friendly! (Alex K - Y4)

I thought Japanese day went perfectly and the food was great. Shopping was really fun as well and Mion did a great job singing and playing the sanshin. Year 4 made 2 games, a fishing game and a ring toss. We were pretty successful and got about 5000 yen. Japanese day was so fun and I can’t wait for next year’s Japanese day. (Millie W - Y4)
