The Arts

Our exhibition of Term 4 work was on display at The Red Tail Gallery. Many thanks to the gallery for giving us this opportunity. Work includes printmaking, drawing, painting, ceramics and textiles.

I am very proud and excited about all of the ceramic pieces displayed. I have been able to do two firings of the kiln so far, with more to occur before the end of the year.

Some descriptions of work in the exhibition:

Foundation - Monoprinting

Paint is rolled onto a perspex sheet and students used their fingers to draw an image. Paper is laid over the perspex sheet and students rub the back of the paper with their hands. When the paper is lifted, the image had printed onto the paper. (The print is a mirror image of the drawing.)

Foundation - Ceramic Musical Shakers

Students rolled small balls of terracotta clay and left them to dry in the air. Students made two pinch pots and stuffed one pot with newspaper and put the clay balls in the other pot.

These were then joined using scratching and slip. The students tapped the hollow form into shape using a flat stick. They then used a skewer to make holes for the sound.

The shakers were painted with white slip and glazes. We will be using our shakers to record a song.

Year 3/4 - Collages made from monoprints

Students created a range of monoprints using tools and found objects. They then cut up their prints to make a collage of their choice of animal.

Year 3/4 - Themed Containers (after Hermannsburg Potters)

Students created pinch pot containers and a lid using hand-building techniques. The students chose their own themes. These works are influenced by the Hermannsburg Potters (Indigenous artists from WA.)

Ceramics Elective

Hand-built objects created at school and during remote learning.

These objects are made with stoneware clay. They require one more firing with clear glaze which will darken the underglaze and make them shiny.

Makers Shed

Makers shed has been great fun so far!

There are usually about 15-25 students per lunchtime session.

Box construction was a real favourite.

There were some wonderful watercolour creations too during the first week.

This week we have been making and glazing stamped ceramic tiles for a mosaic project and Friday was free-play with clay.

Pieces need to dry out and be fired so they will be ready to take home in week 11.

Performing Arts Music

The Year 1/2 class really enjoyed making music using the Chrome Music Lab software.

This is great for all the family to enjoy.

We also learned more about another celebration (our theme this term)… Diwali! We celebrated with light (making diya lamp holders) rangoli (made with drawings and flowers), mime and dancing.

Years 5/6/7 students are continuing to rehearse their performance pieces.

Well done to all the students who are putting a great deal of effort into their ideas. We will be filming their pieces in the next few weeks.

The Year 7 students also used Chrome Song Maker to create some musical pieces that can be played on a loop.
