Senior School Happenings
It has been a big couple of weeks in the Senior School! The Year 12 VCE students have now finished their final exams and which completes their studies with us at Edenhope College. What an exciting time as they step into their future beyond Edenhope College and grab the opportunities out there with both hands!
We had a busy four days of exams for the Year 10 and 11 students as well during week 7. After not having the opportunity to experience exams in the middle of the year, due to COVID, they have had a full suite of exams, which has been a really crucial learning experience for them. Some have relished the opportunity, others have found it quite confronting and challenging. It has at least allowed them to learn from the experience and gain some valuable learning moving forward into their final year(s) of schooling.
Our Head Start program began on Monday, 23/11 (Week 8). This is a two-week program for our senior students to experience their next year classes. Expectations are outlined and work is given for them to complete, which will give them exactly as it says – a “head start” for their learning for 2021. All the senior teachers are excited to start this work and get our students going on the right foot to ensure they are well placed for success in 2021.
While the school year is fast coming to a close, there is still a lot of important work that needs to be completed and expectations are still high for all of our senior students. We look forward to seeing what they can produce over the next two weeks of Head Start and consolidating their knowledge for the year.

Secondhand Book Sale
Second hand books are still available for students going into Years 7-10 in 2021. Miss Shuttleworth is coordinating the second hand book sale and if you have any of these books lying around at home, please bring them into school so that she can help you find a new home for them!
If you have any questions or would like to know more please don’t hesitate to contact Miss Shuttleworth directly through XUNO or email (kara.shuttleworth@education.vic.gov.au) or by calling into the front office.
Abacus Calculators
If you or your child is studying a VCE Mathematics class in 2021 they will need a graphics calculator. They need to be purchased separately from the book list. Please see the flyer for details with how to purchase one. Please note you only need to buy the calculator (the school can charge the calculators for you so you do not need to buy a charging cord).
If you buy a second hand calculator please make sure you have the ti-nspire cx. If you have any questions please contact me via XUNO or email (kara.shuttleworth@education.vic.gov.au)
Year 7 2021 - Transition Day
With the easing of restrictions for Victorian Schools, we were finally able to welcome Grade 6 students from Edenhope College, St. Malachy’s and Apsley for the Year 7 2021 Transition Day this week.
Students were welcomed to Edenhope College by the Acting Principal Trevor McClure where he shared the values of Edenhope College.
After designing and making their own personalised badge, students participated in a range of activities that enabled them to develop positive relationships with their peers and teachers, whilst also identifying what they are most looking forward to at Edenhope College in 2021!
Mrs Eastwood and I would like to commend all students on their positive attitude when participating throughout the day, it was an absolute pleasure to welcome you to Edenhope College and are looking forward to seeing you all again on the December 8.

Robotics
The students of Edenhope College are very happy to have a new resource to use within the machines and robotics elective.
The Lego Mindstorm EV3 is a creative Lego set designed to help students investigate real world situations, STEAM challenges, and learn about robots and programming. Students are currently exploring the different sensors the robots use and how to write the code needed for the robots to interact with objects and the environment.
They have been challenged to build a custom robot to compete in a race using sensors to guide robots through a maze. The students are really excited to discover the abilities of these robots and are enjoying the challenges they have already completed.
Year 8 Science
In Science the Year 8 students have been using microscopes to investigate cell types and the organelles found in the cells. Students were given different prepared slides which they had to sort into animal and plant cells. They were required to draw a detailed diagram of the cells they observed.
