NAIDOC Week

8-15 November 2020

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. However, this year, it has been moved to November due to celebrations being affected by COVID-19.

NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

The theme this year is Always Was, Always Will Be. The emphasis is on seeing, hearing and learning the First Nation’s 65,000+ year history of this country, which is Australian History. It is about celebrating the history with all Australians and being proud that Australia has one of the oldest continuing cultures on the planet.

The students during this week will be learning about the connection Aboriginals have to the land, some information on the art that is included on the poster and how storytelling works in Aboriginal culture.
