Protocols for Students with Flu-Like Symptoms

It is important that all Early Learning Centre and Junior School families are on the same page in regards to protocols for students with cold-like symptoms.  If children are unwell, the expectation is parents will keep them at home. If they exhibit cold-like symptoms, they may only return after medical advice has been provided to the school that they are safe to do so. This is in the form of a negative COVID-19 result. This is the ‘new normal’ and we ask for your support.

Class Photographs

School photographs are an important element of the educational journey. 2020 has seen many of the regular Junior School activities cancelled or reimagined. Next Tuesday, October 27th, we ask the Junior School students in Prep to Year Six classes to come to school in their full summer uniform (blazers + ties) in order for 2020 class photographs to be taken. We will send parents digital copies of these. They will also be used in the 2020 Collandrian. The class photographs will be taken by Junior School staff. Whilst the quality may not be of the usual Arthur Reed standard, we will aim to do our very best.

Books to Life - 'Hello Lighthouse'

On Wednesday, Prep to Year Six students were thoroughly entertained with a virtual incursion from ‘Books To Life’. Each year, Tony ‘Bones’ Appleby and his creative team take one of the CBCA shortlisted texts and transform it into an incredibly entertaining and engaging stage show. This year, Tony offered College a unique virtual incursion in place of a visit to the school. The focus was ‘Hello Lighthouse’ by Sophie Blackall. A good time was had by all and we look forward to ‘Books to Life’ visiting us in person in 2021.

Important Messages - Paul Watkins

On Saturday I had the privilege of attending the Year 12 Re-retreat. Ms Reiher and her team put on a fabulous day for the Year 12 students. This included a guest speaker, Mr Paul Watkins from Warrnambool.  Paul Watkin’s story was centred around his participation in the 6633 Arctic Ultra Marathon. The father-of-two raced 617 kilometres through the arctic to win the 2019 edition of the international event. It was the second time Paul had attempted to tackle the marathon after he pulled out in 2017. Whilst his presentation was aimed at our Year 12 students, there were many great take-aways for the Junior School learning community.

*It is great to have grand plans, but they don’t always work.

*It is important to fail and to learn.

*Train for what you will encounter, not what you expect.

*It is perfectly okay to back yourself.

*Doing the work is the shortcut.

*You need to create room to breathe and to think.

*Rise to the level of the challenge in front of you, or fall to the standard of your training.

During Remote Learning II Elsie Brown kept her Year Three classmates and her teacher, Mrs Milich, entertained with regular instalments of her new book, “Carol the DJ and her Super Friends.” It all began with some images supplied by Mrs Marshall of a castle, a cool girl, a funky dog, a beautiful castle and a haunted castle. Elsie used her wonderful imagination to develop the characters and storyline. After completing each of the seven chapters, Elsie posted it on the Year Three Teams page for her classmates to enjoy. The book received fabulous reviews! At the beginning of Term Four, Mrs Marshall presented Elsie with a surprise hard copy of her book. Elsie has inspired several of her class members to have a go at writing their own books. She hopes to complete another book in the near future! Stay tuned.

Thank you Mrs Marshall, for your great inspiration and encouragement.
