Under 14 Cricket Report

The Under 14 HDJCA cricket season got underway on Saturday morning with the battle between the College Gold and Blue teams at Mitchell Park.

Both players and parents were excited to have some sport back to play and watch and all adhered to the COVID Safe protocols understanding that we are privileged to be back playing cricket in this pandemic.

College Gold won the toss and batted posting 3/87 off their 24 overs. George Huf and Tom Heazlewood opened and batted well against some good bowling. George made 22 and Tom 7. Max Hindhaugh contributed 12 not out while, for Blue, Ollie Pern with two wickets and Ned Hintum with one were the wicket takers.  All bowlers did an impressive job considering the ball was hard to control due to the wet outfield.

In reply, the game was fairly even up until the halfway mark of the innings when Harry Austin and Charlie Whitehead took control, each making 25 retired. Tom OSullivan with 14no and Ollie Pern 13 batted well also. For the Gold team Jude Alexander and Darcy Milne were the wicket takers as the Blue team finished with 2/129 off their 24 overs.

It is great for the Club to once again have two under 14 teams playing, giving 26 keen boys the chance to have fun, develop new friendships and improve further in the game of cricket. Credit is due to the previous year’s commitment from people like Stephen Mirtschin and now Jarran Cook as Head of Junior Boys’ Cricket and of course Lachy Patterson and Angus Brown who run the Milo/ Woolworths blast program.
