NEWS & ADMINISTRATION

Mrs Caroline Galea

Dear Parents,

Welcome to another fortnight at Holy Name.  There is always a lot going on in a school environment and the upcoming fortnight is no exception.  On Sunday, Peter K and Eleni will be getting married.  We wish to congratulate the happy couple and wish them an amazing wedding day along with a wonderful life together.

Over the next three weeks, Ms Nadia Ascenzo will be on LSL (to attend a family event) and her class will be taken by Ms Chiara Bold.

By now most of you would have heard about the incident that occurred across the road. At 3:25 today parents began to notice smoke coming from one of the houses across the road in McColl Street. Thank you to the parents that then proceeded to assist us by calling the Fire Brigade, clearing their cars from the street and moving away from the area. Rather than send the children out on the 3:30pm bell (as the many Fire Brigade trucks arrived) I decided to keep them indoors and for parents to go in and collect their children. It was important to keep all children out of harms way and a way for us to ensure that all children were collected. As children being inquisitive could have wandered across the road. I am sorry if this inconvenienced some of our parents but our priority is the welfare and safety of the children.

Monday 20th February

On Monday, the children will receive a visit from a school liaison Police Officer.  He will be talking to the children about how to keep safe.

Ash Wednesday Mass

Next Wednesday, the whole school will be attending Ash Wednesday Mass at 9:00am (read the Religion page to find out the significance of Ash Wednesday). While this is not a Holy Day of Obligation, it is part of the Catholic Tradition.  I encourage you to talk to your children about this, for those of you who are unsure of what happens, please feel free to talk to your child's classroom teacher or a member of leadership.

Children on the Adventure Playground after school

I have noticed that there are quite a few Prep students on the playground after school. Please note that when staff go on Yard Duty after school, we are watching the children on the yard, we are not watching the adventure playground. Children are not permitted to play on the playground after school.

Preps on Wednesday

Please note that all Prep students are required at school on Wednesday.  The reason for the day swap is because Friday is a school closure day for all students.

Closure Day

Just a reminder that we will be having the first of our closure days on Friday 24th February. Once again, I apologise that it is so early in the term, however as we are engaging an external provider, this is the only day available. Please note that Camp Australia will be running throughout the day, should you need their services.  You will need to book your child in.

Uniform

A reminder that when the children are not in sports uniform, they are expected to wear their correct summer uniform.  Please do not allow your child to come to school in runners with white soles.  Tights are also not permitted under the summer dress.  I know Melbourne's weather is fickle, however the children do not notice it as much as an adult does.

Enrolments for 2024

We are now taking enrolments and tours for 2024.  If you are aware of friends and family that may be interested in a school tour, please call into the office for a flyer. There are a number of open sessions and small tour groups. If you are already a Holy Name family, please drop by the office and pick up an enrolment pack.

School Fee Statements & CSEF

2023 Fee Statements were emailed to all families last week.  If you didn't receive it, please check your spam.  For any queries, please contact Leanne in the office or Mrs Vivien Costa, Bursar.

If you hold a current Health Care Card or Pension Concession Card, please come to the office to collect a CSEF (Camps, Sport & Excursions Fund) form.

All eligible families MUST apply every year for CSEF  ($125 per child per year)

You may also pick up forms to apply for the concessional fee policy.

If preferred, any of the above forms can be emailed to you OR your child can collect them from the office.

School Sunglasses & Sunhats

To purchase replacement school sunglasses ($15) & legionnaire hats ($13).

Your child can bring money straight to the office or you can come in and pay by card or cash.   You can also pay by credit card over the phone, if preferred.

Parent Class Representatives

Each year, we call for parent volunteers to act as Class Representatives who are an important part of our school in assisting us to build a strong community. This is not a difficult role and would suit either a mum or dad.  The Role of the Reps is as follows:

RESPONSIBILITIES

SUGGESTIONS

  • Acts as a contact point between the Parents & Friends and school
  • Feedback to P & F and School Staff on what parents are thinking and commenting on
  • Act as a source of information for new families to the school
  • Acting as an extra line of communication between the teacher and parents, for example by passing on messages about school events
  • Organise social events for parents to get to know each other
  • Setting up and running a Facebook page where class parents can communicate

There are 11 classes and we are looking for one rep per class.  In the past, some classes have had two reps and this has worked particularly well, so if you would like to partner up with another parent in your child's class, please do so.

If you are interested in taking on this role, please see/email Leanne in the office (office@hnpe.catholic.edu.au) by 27th February. We will be in touch with all parents who have volunteered after this date.

School Advisory Committee

The first meeting of the SAC (School Advisory Committee) is next Tuesday 21st February 2023 in the staffroom at 7:00pm. If there are any parents interested in joining the committee, please email Caroline (principal@hnpe.catholic.edu.au)

Church Driveway Parking

We ask all parents to refrain from parking in the forecourt of the Church, as this area is reserved/sign posted as disabled parking only.  Thank you for your co-operation.
