NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.

NAPLAN is made up of tests in the 4 areas (or ‘domains’) of:

  1. Reading
  2. Writing
  3. Conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation)
  4. Numeracy

The assessments are undertaken nationwide, every year. The assessment was previously held in May, but from this year it has been moved to March

The assessment dates for NAPLAN are from

Wednesday 15th March - Monday 27th March.

As the assessments are now completed online, schools are able to select the dates when these assessments happen, with guidance provided from NAPLAN. The Writing assessment will be completed first by our Year 3 and 5 students. The remaining assessments will follow, during the assessment period, allowing time to catch up students who may have missed their assessment due to illness.

When the assessment dates and times have been finalised, they will be put on the School Calendar for you to keep track of at home. Further information will also be provided for families who have children undertaking a NAPLAN assessment in 2023.

STEM

Our STEM lessons have been in full swing this term. It has been great to see our students embrace this new specialist subject and give it a go. They have enjoyed learning about what STEM is, while making connections to the world around them.

Our students will be learning about the following concepts for Term One:

P-2: Properties of Materials

3/4: Properties of Water

5/6: Properties of Light

Enjoy some photos and a video of our STEM helicopter lesson.

Thank you to Antoinette for these photos.

We look forward to sharing some more STEM learning with you in our next newsletter.

Classroom Open Days

A HUGE thank you to each and every parent who was able to attend our Open Classrooms this week.

We hope this visit provided you with a glimpse into their school life world for 2023. We hope you toured your child's classroom and saw a snapshot of learning that has happened so far.

We appreciate all the feedback you gave to our staff and leaders on the days.

P-2 Classroom Helper W0rkshops

We are excited to welcome you back into our classrooms, learning alongside us again. Teachers and students value assistance within the classrooms. Parental assistance can often enhance the learning environment through involvement in school programs, while assisting to develop new insights and understandings about your child/children, fostering the links between home and school learning.

Our Classroom Helper workshop will assist you to gain insights, strategies and language to help support the teachers and students within the classroom. If you would like to be a helper in the classroom this year, we recommend that you attend a Classroom Helper Workshop.

We are offering two workshops this term.

These workshops will be held on:

  • Monday 27th March - 2:30-3:15pm and
  • Wednesday 29th March - 9 - 9:45am.
