Education in Faith

At Holy Spirit, we respectfully acknowledge the Wurundjeri people and their Elders past and present, who are the Traditional Custodians of the land on which Holy Spirit Community School is located.

Prayer Cloths

Did you know that each class designs their own class prayer cloth each year?

We have been busy preparing a classroom prayer space that can be used each day.

This week we would like to share 3/4D's (Etta) class prayer cloth.

A prayer for the week.

Dear Lord,

Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent. The ashes that were placed on our foreheads are a symbol to remind us that during Lent we are trying to grow to be more like Jesus, and a sign that we are asking God for forgiveness.

We use the colour violet as a sign that we are willing to ask for forgiveness and say sorry for all the wrong things we have done.

We pray for our school community, that we may be inspired by the life and message of Christ to act in love - reaching out to those who need our help.

May you walk with us this Lent and guide us as we come together as disciples of Jesus, ready to make a difference in the lives of others.

We pray for the work of Caritas Australia, that through our support of Project Compassion, Caritas can work together with communities around the world, providing them with the skills needed to create a future they deserve.

Amen

Andrew Chinn visit

We are very excited to share with you that Andrew Chinn, from Butterfly House, will be visiting Holy Spirit on Tuesday 28th March.

On this day each student will participate in a music workshop and concert. These workshops are celebrations of faith and fun through singing, actions and a bit of comedy as well. Our students will be encouraged to be active participants, rather than spectators.

9:15am - Prep - Year 2 concert

10:00am - Year 3/4 concert

11:30am - Year 5/6 concert

12:15pm - Choir workshop

(times could vary slightly)

Andrew will then host an evening concert for our families at 6pm on Tuesday 28th March. Please pop this date in your calendars. All families are welcome to attend.

Have a wonderful fortnight,

Kayla Flindt-Petersen

PARISH NEWS

This week we see the start of Lent with the children celebrating mass on Ash Wednesday.  This is the 40 days of preparation for Easter when we are called to deepen our spiritual lives through fasting, prayer and almsgiving.  Challenge yourself this year and go beyond the usual practice of “giving up” something.  Perhaps participate in a Lenten reflection program, a daily act of kindness, quiet reflection on your life, pray for somebody or volunteer to participate in the Easter liturgies.  Now is a great time to take stock of your spiritual life and grow in it.  There are Project Compassion boxes available in the Church if you would like to collect one to keep at home for almsgiving.

On the last Friday of the month, the Parish hosts a Ladies Morning Tea at 10.00 am in the Mary Bresnan Room.  The first meeting this year will be Friday 24th February.  Why not come along and bring a friend.  It is a friendly group full of laughter and fun and would love to have your company.  So why not get a group together and come and join us.

Please keep in your prayers the thousands of victims of the recent Turkish/Syrian earthquake.  So many people who survived are desperate for shelter, food, clothing and basic necessities.  If you would like to donate you may do so to the Syrian Appeal BSB 062784 Account 100011493.  All donations are tax deductible.

Holy Spirit is a child safe Parish.  We hold the care, safety and well being of children and young people as a central and fundamental responsibility of our Parish.

Spirit Magazine

The March 2022 Spirit Magazine is now being prepared. We would love any contributions you would like to share: photos from a community activity, back to school or first day stories or photos, achievements of our students and Alumni, articles you think worth sharing or a favourite digital resource. Please send your inputs to thespirit@holyspiritparish.org.au by 24 March. Thank you very much, Yvette.
