Yr12 Valedictory Dinner

Valedictory Dinner

On Friday 24th November, we held the Valedictory Dinner for our VCE Class of 2017.  It was a lovely evening with special messages for the leaving students delivered by Mrs Wansbrough and Mr Presant, and the Valedictory message delivered by Adam Albertus.   Our Year 12 students are now officially finished with formal schooling and await their VCE results anxiously to see what the next part of their journey through life will bring forth.

We pray that God will go with and before each one as they step out as young adults and we trust that with His leading they will indeed be “inspired by FAITH, distinguished by CHARACTER and leaders by INFLUENCE.”

Elevate Education and Study Skills

This year in Senior School we have continued to tighten our focus on preparing students for their Year 12 exams. From conducting practice exams, holding VCAA exams here on campus, and beginning 2018 subjects early in our HeadStart program—the emphasis on preparing students to achieve their academic potential has been a focal point for us in Senior School.

An exciting program will be commencing in 2018 to further prepare and equip students in their studies.

This comprehensive program aims to improve the study skills of our students throughout 2018. We have engaged a provider called ‘Elevate Education’ http://au.elevateeducation.com/ to help us build and improve the skills of our students; helping to maximise their study and revision time. Over the course of the year, Elevate Education will be providing our Years 9-12 students with practical and relevant seminars. There seminars include:

Time Management

Memory and Mnemonics

Study Sensei

Student Elevation

Ace Your Exams

Finishing Line

These seminars will be pitched at each different year levels as the study needs vary from Year 9 to Year 12. Students will not only be provided with materials to work through during these hour-long sessions, but follow up material online is available to students and teachers to reinforce skills and vocabulary learned.

One other benefit is that Elevate Education will run a parent seminar. This will further help you as parents to understand what is being taught to students to allow you to be involved in your student’s learning and studying journey. Be on the lookout for this date in 2018!

In 2018 all Year 10 students will be taking a subject entitled Study Skills. This subject will be taught with the purpose of enhancing our students’ ability to prepare for VCE, reinforce concepts learned in seminars, and provide a place for a teacher to explicitly help students organise themselves.

I am excited about the scope and sequence of seminars we will offer next year to Senior School students, and the benefits both long and short term for them to grow in their capacity as students.

Christian Ministry and Theology at St Andrews 2018

  • Grow in Christian Life
  • Serve your community
  • Discover your purpose
  • Develop skills for employment

In 2018, seven St Andrews Year 11 and 12 students will be completing the first VET in Schools subject offered at St Andrews - Certificate III in Christian Ministry & Theology (10432NAT) - through our partnership with Veta Morphus. This nationally accredited discipleship and ministry training course is approved by the Department of Education and Training in Victoria. As such, it will contribute to the VCE and ATAR.

Christian Ministry and Theology is a one-year Christian discipleship program for Year 11 and 12 students.  The course offers a refreshing break from the traditional classroom setting, inviting students to read and reflect on Scripture, serve in a local ministry, participate in the life of their Christian community and attend three weekend retreats with students from across the state.

Our 2018 Christian Ministry and Theology students are: Isabel Yeoh (Year 12), Audrey Ang (Year 11), Hannah Koura (Year 12), Caylee Hendricks (Year 11), Michelle Hole (Year 11), Joel Julien (Year 11), Sarah Alexander (Year 12). Students are keen to start their training and share their thoughts:

Isabel Yeoh  As a growing Christian, I think this course will help me grow in faith and maturity.

Audrey Ang I would like to discover more about God and I hope to learn more about the gifts God has provided and equipped me with.

Hannah Koura I am interested in having a deeper understanding about Christianity and the Bible.

Caylee Hendricks I am hoping to learn more about God and His word and establish a better foundation with my faith. I am interested in learning how to spread God’s word.

Michelle Hole  As a young believer, I would like to grow in my understanding of God. I would also like to grow as a leader.

We are delighted to offer this wonderful opportunity to our Senior School students. Thank you for your support and prayers for the students and staff taking this course as they engage in deepening their faith journey through hands-on ministry and leadership training.

Careers News

Welcome to the last issue of St Andrews Careers Newsletter for 2017.

Once again, thank you very much for your support and for reading careers newsletters and encouraging our wonderful students to participate in programs and explore new opportunities.
