Gifted and Talented

Throughout this term, the area of Gifted and Talented has been reviewed. Many parents have provided feedback via a recent survey that is currently being analysed. Thank you for those of you that have responded. So far, one area that has been identified is what the program looks like at St Andrews.

As a College, we have many activities and programs on offer that are aimed at catering for the diverse needs of our students. We are currently working on compiling a Handbook that will provide details of the Gifted and Talented Program offered here at St Andrews. We are also in the process of updating our website to provide information, activities and links regarding our Gifted and Talented Program.

Mastery Week

Throughout the year, Mastery classes are run during the last week of each term. Selected students are withdrawn from class so that they can focus on engaging in a small group activity based on a particular interest area. Recent Mastery Classes were held which focussed on Economics. Students were able to build their understanding of trading and the importance of buyers and sellers. Participants reported exciting ideas, along with gaining an understanding of negotiation and decision making.  In another class, the focus was on simple and complex electronic circuits. Students engaged in understanding how circuits work and constructed circuits using a range of electronics.
