WRITING FOLIOS
The end of the year sees our Year 7 and 8 students submit their completed writing folios. The folio allows them the opportunity to write on any topic and in any form that they choose, whilst also seeing them work closely with their teacher to develop their work through drafting.
Students should be compiling their final drafts and making any last additions to their Writer’s Notebook before submission.
It has been great to see so many fantastic pieces of writing produced through this program and we’re sure that 2016 will bring with it many new ideas and beautiful pieces of writing!
2016 YEARS 9 TO 11 STUDENTS
A reminder that students from Years 9 to 11 all have a basic reading requirement over the summer break.
With such tight timelines in Years 10 through to 12 English, it is important that students are prepared on the first day back.
Those who perform best when analysing texts and responding creatively, are those who have first got the basic knowledge of a chosen text, which they can then develop in class with their teacher through various lessons and activities.
Please feel free to read through the texts yourselves as parents and guardians and look to encourage your son or daughter to approach the texts with enthusiasm. A small amount of reading time each day of the break will lead to the novel or play being completed in the new year, allowing for students to feel confident when they return to their English classes for 2016.
Students have received details of the reading assignments in class or at their orientation sessions for VCE.
Briefly, the required texts for Term 1 are:
- Year 10 – To Kill A Mockingbird
- Year 11 – Twelve Angry Men
- Year 12 – No Sugar
There are, of course, other texts that will be studied, and whilst it would be great to have the above read as a minimum, further confidence and achievement will be possible if students can read the other listed novels and plays.
