Welcome back to Term 4. I trust that everyone is enjoying the lovely weather that we have been gifted over the past few weeks.

Importance of Breakfast

In a survey that was completed by our Year 3, 4 and 5 students earlier in the year as part of the 'Resilient Youth' study, it was highlighted that a number of students will often come to school without having any breakfast. With our busy mornings and hurry to get to school on time, breakfast can sometimes be missed in the rush. However, there is much research highlighting the importance of a healthy breakfast each day.

Not eating breakfast before school means that a child may not have eaten in over 12 hours. This means that their bodies will have used up most of the energy from this food overnight. Low energy levels have a direct link to lack of concentration and feeling tired, which can significantly impact on academic performance and behaviour choices at school. Eating breakfast can lead to:

  • Higher levels of concentration
  • Longer attention spans when completing tasks
  • Better physical performance with more energy available for muscles to use
  • Increased participation and engagement in activities
  • Happier and more stable moods
  • Healthy lifestyle and eating patterns

There are many ideas available for different options for breakfast. Smoothies are great options to have on the move or low sugar cereal with milk can be an easy favourite, especially if breakfast items are put out the night before so all you have to do is add milk. Jump Rope for Heart

The ELC – 5 students all took care of their hearts with our annual “Jump Off” on September 14, 2018. Established in Australia in 1983, the Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart is renowned for being one of Australia’s most popular physical activities and fundraising programs in schools, as the students raise money to go towards fighting heart disease. Thank you to Ms Caroline Leach for organising this event again this year.  We are most proud of our fundraising efforts as we have raised almost $7000 this year, surpassing our previous best effort. Thank you to everyone for all their support of this worthwhile cause.

Uniform

Don’t forget that we are now all required to wear a full summer uniform, as outlined in the School Diary.  Please be aware that jumpers are able to be worn at school for comfort and warmth, however they must have a blazer covering them if they are worn to and from School.  We also would like to remind everyone that the wearing of hats for outside time is compulsory for Term 4.  All students require a school hat, which can be purchased from Dobsons.

Prep Information Evening

Thank you to all parents and teachers who attended the Prep 2019 Information Evening on Tuesday, 16 October.  It was wonderful to see so many of our families at this night. It is an exciting time as the transition commences and we look forward to continuing your child’s educational journey.  If you were unable to attend, your information pack has been forwarded to you via your child’s educators. If you have any questions, please let us know.

We look forward to another busy term with you all.
