Head of Middle School

Welcome back to Term 4! Where has the year gone?

Term 3 finished in a flurry of excitement with the Years 7 and 8 Camps, and the Year 9 City Experience taking place.

Year 7 Camp

During the last week of Term 3, our Year 7 students ventured to Merricks for four fun-filled days at the UCA Camp. The students enjoyed a number of coastal and adventure activities that included; surfing, bushwalking, mountain biking, tree climbing and coastal walks. The camp was a great success, and our students received high praise from the camp operator for their manners, enthusiasm and conduct on the camp.

Thanks to Mr Damatopoulos for his organisation of the camp, as well as the staff who gave up their time to attend the camp.

Year 8 Camp

Meanwhile, our Year 8 students ventured to Karoondah Park Camp in the Snowy Mountains for a five day camp on a working Hereford Stud farm. During the camp, the students had the chance to go abseiling, orienteering, bushwalking, rafting, horse riding and caving.

During their downtime, students were able to enjoy the surrounding farm with quiet walks and the sounds, sights and smells of rural life. Students were also given a tour of the working farm and given a class in the serious business and Science behind commercial cattle breeding.

The camp was a wonderful experience that took all students beyond their comfort zone, providing many opportunities for personal growth and achievement.

Thanks to Mr Costello for his organisation of the camp and to all staff who gave up their time to attend the five day camp.

Year 9 City Experience

Also, during the last week of Term 3, back in Melbourne, our Year 9 students undertook a week of experiential learning in the Melbourne CBD. During the City-Experience week, students travelled independently to and from the CBD, where they met as a class and undertook a variety of activities to gain an insight into the many culturally rich opportunities available to them in our beautiful city.

During the week, students attended the theatre, enjoyed a scenic and historical boat cruise to Williamstown, undertook a tour to admire and learn about Melbourne’s renowned Street Art, went indoor rock climbing and visited the Big Issue offices to learn about the issue of homelessness in Melbourne.

Our thanks go to Mr Gridley for his organisation of the event, as well as to the many staff who joined the students over the course of the week.

 Transition Welcome Morning

On the morning of Thursday 25th October,  four new students were welcomed into the Oakleigh Grammar community, as they joined our existing Year 5 class to participate in the Year 6 2019 Welcome Morning.

The morning was an opportunity for new and existing students to meet, mix, make friends and get a taste of what is in store when they join the Middle School in 2019.

The students had a wonderful experience making new friends. The morning was a great success and will help students by encouraging a smooth transition into Year 7 next year.

Thanks to all staff and parents who contributed to the success of the morning.
