MARK ROBERTSON

Principal

Farewell to the Year 12 Class of 2018

To all members of Year 12, I wish you every success for your forthcoming examinations. Our final assembly which was held earlier this week provided an opportunity to reflect on the past thirteen years of their formal schooling. Our Graduation Dinner was a night to be remembered as our graduates and their parents combined with our staff for a grand farewell. I am confident that our 2018 graduates are prepared for life after Oakleigh Grammar and that they will contribute enormously to our broader society.

Government Funding

The Australian Government has announced the changes it intends to make in the model used to calculate the funding it provides to non-government schools. This is an important development and provides certainty for the 2019 school year. At this point in time, there is still an element of uncertainty for 2020 and beyond. I firmly believe there is potential for a reasonable and sustainable funding system to take place.

The forthcoming State and Federal elections will have education as a key agenda and we will follow this agenda debate very closely.

Early Childhood Education Funding

Last week we hosted a visit from the Hon Jenny Mikakos, Minister for Early Childhood Education accompanied by our local Member Steve Dimopoulos MP. The Minister graciously shared the news of a $160,000 government grant for the purpose of strengthening Greek Language in our Early Learning Centre.

Internationalism

This past week I have presented at a Symposium for Indonesian and Australian Principals by invitation from the Ministry of Education, Indonesia. This Symposium was facilitated by Monash University and has been another opportunity to strengthen the relationship between Oakleigh Grammar and Monash University.

The Symposium was held in Bandung and presented an opportunity to exchange educational and cultural ideas, while also showcasing our excellent School.

Early Learning Centre Leadership

I am pleased to advise that we will be welcoming Ms Tarryn Morris to the Early Learning Centre as our Acting ELC Coordinator.

Tarryn has current experience in managing childcare services and her experience will be extremely valuable at this time. Tarryn will commence her position on the 7th November 2018.
