Books light up our World!

Every year the Children’s Book Council of Australia nominate certain titles for the prestigious title of book of the year.  There are a few categories, but of interest to us is the Younger reader category and the Older reader category.  There are six titles nominated for book of the year in each category, but only one winner in each category.

See this space for more information about the titles in the lead up to Children’s Book Week 22nd – 28th August.

ALL new books on display can be borrowed immediately.

IT’S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY

By Ned VIZzini about an ambitious New York City teenager called Craig who is determined to get into the ‘right’ high school, the ‘right’ college and get the ‘right’ job.  This comes at a cost …. his enjoyment of life is compromised, but he finds his way through the difficulties and on an unexpected road to happiness.

Kerr THOmson THE SOUND OF WHALES

Set on a rugged Scottish island, Fraser and Hayley set out to untangle the mystery of the washed up bodies of a man and a whale. Fraser’s little brother Danny is horrified by the discovery.

CAPTIVE by A J GRAinger.

This story is a kidnap thriller.  Robyn Knolly-Green, famous for being the daughter of a powerful entrepreneur disappears … and even the paparazzi cannot find her.  Global corruption and intrigue with twists and turns that will surprise you, this is a terrific read.

I’LL GIVE YOU THE SUN  Jandy NELson.

The complications of LOVE … Jude and her twin Noah were close until a tragedy left them struggling to speak civilly to each other.  This is a possible ‘tear jerker’ dealing with the topics of death, grief and love.  According to San Francisco Magazine, this read is ‘a gravity-defying, life-affirming experience.’

Chris RYAn’s UNDER COVER

This story follows Ricky’s action packed life on the streets.  Ricky is smart and fast, but he steals from the wrong people and finds himself in real trouble.  He is saved by an unusual offer, one that he can’t refuse if he wants to escape his predicament.  This book is fast paced and a great read.
