Staff Profile

Brooke Matthews

Assistant Principal – Cheltenham Secondary College

I am currently shadowing Gail Major as part of the Department of Education’s Principal Preparation program from called Unlocking Potential.  The program involves seven workshops that look at the different aspects of running a school, some coaching around where I need to improve as (identified by a survey I asked staff at my school to undertake to give me some feedback) and a shadowing experience with a Principal of another school.

I will be at Scoresby Secondary College for two weeks gaining an insight into what the role of the Principal is and learning from the expertise of Gail and the amazing work she has put into place in the short time she has been at Scoresby. Already I have taken some ideas back to my current school around student voice and agency,  in particular how we can use student feedback about how teachers could improve their practices.

I've just recently adopted an 18 month old Labrador from the Seeing Eye Dogs  Australia, who wasn't confident enough to become a guide dog. I love to take her down the beach daily for a run and swim.

When I'm not at work I take time out to travel, particularly around Australia. My favourite places in Australia are Uluru and Karijini National Park in outback Western Australia. I enjoy going for long runs and bike rides, with the occasional swim in between.
