Celebration Week - Year 12

This week marks the final week of classes for the Year 12 students – the year has flown by!  I’m sure that during this week the students will reflect on their highlights and accomplishments and remember fondly this year.

Our Celebrations Week began with a breakfast put on by Parent Net for the Year 12 students.  A huge thank you to Cindy Lopes, Sharon and Brett Wallace, and Zac Tarquinio for their efforts in manning the barbeque – the smell of the bacon was amazing and the Hub looked fabulous with all the colour!  It was a lovely way to start the week with the most important meal of the day.  Sadly for the students in the Staff vs Students game of volleyball at lunch, the staff were able to achieve one final victory, with a tie-breaker seeing the staff team beat the students.  The rest of the week Year 12 students will be in costume, and planting a tree as a lasting memorial to their time here at Scoresby Secondary College, before and      their final assembly was on Thursday 18 October with the Valedictory Dinner on Friday night finishing off the week.

On behalf of the Senior School team, we look forward to celebrating this week with the students and acknowledging the work of parents, guardians and other family and friends in supporting their young person through their schooling at Valedictory Dinner.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge and thank all teachers for their work over the years; Year 12 is a culmination of the efforts from Years 7 through to Year 12.

Year 10 and Year 11 Exams

Our Year 10 and Year 11 students should be beginning their exam revision in preparation for their exam period starting in early November.  Year 11 exams will mirror the external Year 12 exams, in both content and structure.  This means that they will cover all of the year and have the same timings as the Year 12 exams.  This is done to best prepare the Year 11s for the rigours of Year 12 studies, especially with regard to time management.  For both year levels, study and revision should begin to increase to 20 hours per week to ensure that exam responses and scores adequately reflect knowledge and skills and not simply a lack of effort.  We expect all our students to put in their best effort and commit to their studies at this time.

Exam timetables for each year level are on Compass for parents and guardians to access and support their young person during this often stressful time.  If parents are concerned by the work rate and anxiety levels of their young person, they are encouraged to contact the relevant Year Level Coordinator, so that we can best support them.

Head Start

Head Start will commence on Monday 19 November for Year 11 and Year 10 students following exams.  This program is designed, as the name suggests, to give our students a ‘head start’ on their studies.  All students are expected to attend all sessions.  The timetable will be published in the coming weeks.
