TOP ACTS
Tim Huddleston
Congratulations to Tim Huddleston (Year 12) for his outstanding performance at the Top Acts performance at the Melbourne Recital Centre on Friday 6 May.
Top Acts is an evening concert which presents a selection of performers from across the Top Class concert series in one stunning event. Dance, Drama, Theatre Studies, Music Solo and Group Performance and original musical works are blended together into a dynamic presentation.
Tim also performed and was given two awards from the Dandenong Ranges Music Council. The “Inaugural Mark McAlister Brass Award for Excellence” and the “Ann and Chris Krans Music Award”. These awards are given to people under the age of 18 for excellence in Music performance and are designed to encourage those interested in making music a part of their career path. Congratulations Tim.
Congratulations also to our wonderful Brass teacher, Kent Fisk, who has taught Tim Tuba for the last six years - since primary school. His encouragement, commitment to Tim and musical tuition has been outstanding.
Classroom Music
The Junior Music students have been preparing for their practical common assessment task and will be assessed on their instruments soon.
The Year 7 Music classes have been learning about musical notation and learning to play songs on keyboard or glockenspiel. The Year 8 Music classes have started to learn guitar, keyboard and/or drums.
The Year 9 Core Music classes have been rehearsing for their group or solo performances in class time. We have some very talented musicians that we are discovering through music. The Year 9 Elective Music class has been learning how to compose and write their own compositions.
The Year 11 & 12 VCE Music students have also been assessed on the technical aspects of their instrument, demonstrating exercises that are relevant to their instruments and the pieces they are performing.
The Unit 3 students also have a performance night coming up on June 9.
Instrumental Music
The Year 7 Rookie Band have had their first couple of band rehearsals at lunchtime and they are a wonderful group of students. The main focus at the moment is learning to play with all of the other instruments and learning how to follow a conductor.
The Funk Band, LHS Band, Vocal Ensemble, Rookie & Hendrix Guitar Ensembles and Percussion Ensemble have been rehearsing regularly at lunchtimes in preparation for the End of Semester Concert on Tuesday 14 June.
Parents, please remind your children to participate and attend all rehearsals as it is a requirement to be in an ensemble if you learn an instrument at school. Keyboard is however an exception.
Congratulations
Congratulations to the LHS Band and solo VCE Music students who performed at the Information Evening on Tuesday 10 May.
